What we’re about

We are the biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta...

...and we invite you to join us! Everyone is always welcome.

Jakarta Creatives is the community to explore, practice, or enjoy all forms of art and creativity in Jakarta. We do book swaps, karaoke nights, writing sessions, enjoy poetry together, watch movies, do photography walking tours, and much more! It's all about authentic connections in an uncomplicated and informal setting.

You can see past events here: https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-creatives/events/?type=past

Together, we are creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. This group is a convergence of people and cultures.

You might want to check out the group Jakarta Friends, too!

Over the past 3 years, with Jakarta Creatives & Jakarta Creatives we have had over 250 events with about 2,500 attendees! Everyone should always feel welcome to join disregarding from their ethnicity, nationality, religion, creed, age, language skills, gender identification, sexual orientation, background, ability, income, social status, or any other arbitrary trait.

From September 2024, we have a yearly membership fee to join our events. The membership fee is not expensive and gives access to all events + exclusive perks! There's so much more value to members than having an event fee. We guarantee keep organising plenty of events and the fee is refundable if the group closes down or if there are no events for more than three months. You can attend the first event for free and take a look!

Feel free to **join the group Jakarta Friends: https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-friends/** With Jakarta Friends we play board games, talk business, socialize, eat and drink together, do language exchanges, explore the city by walking and culinary tours, and much more!

We look forward to meet you at a next event!
Corrado & the team of co-organisers

GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writings šŸ¤“ (hybrid event)

Mad for Coffee cipete, Jl. Asem dua No.27 RT.14/RW.04, Cipete Selatan, Cilandak, South Jakarta, ID

Hello, Jakarta Creative! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet? Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you will take at the event 😊

JakCre and JakFri is THE oldest, biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this WRITERS' CLUB: GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writing!

Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.
Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.

    ABOUT THE EVENT

What's one of the most difficult part in writing? Getting high-quality feedback.

This event addresses exactly this! Plus, writers will have the chance to be part of a friendly community and a support system for fellow creatives. We want to help and elevate each other!

This is what we will do: We will meet at the indicated time (please don't be late) and everyone who wishes to can drop their name on a box for a lucky draw. One person is selected by chance and will need to have a text of any kind (poetry/fiction/non-fiction/essay/article/script/blog/music lyrics/whatever!) ready to share with everyone on a Google drive folder.

Then everyone will take their time and read the piece(s) on their own. We allocate about 60 minutes quiet reading time. Readers will take notes on what they wish to give feedback to. The author is also welcome to brief readers on what they should pay attention to or give feedback on.

People who wishes to be there as readers only (that is, without putting their name in the lucky draw box), are most welcome to! The crucial part is that everyone needs to be respectful of each other's craft and give polite, constructive feedback!

After reading time, there is the feedback time! For about 60 minutes, we will discuss what we have read, and give feedback to the author.
Sounds easy, fun, and productive? It is. Everyone will have the chance to learn something new! This event doesn't require any preparation! We will read and give feedback on the spot.

This will be a unique occasion to receive a feedback on your writings (of any kind) and to practice your ability to give and receive feedbacks on texts!

This will be a hybrid event! You can join in person or online as explained in the event posted in the new meetup group "How to Become a Writer": https://www.meetup.com/how-to-become-a-writer/

Just be ready to share (not mandatory) a piece of your writing of about 2,000 words (1,000 to 10,000 words is OK, too, but be aware that a shorter piece is more likely to receive plenty of feedback) as a Google Drive link and grant people access to read.

Be sure you will join with a device where it's possible to join a video conference (Zoom/GoogleMeet/tbd).

We have done this event before! Take a look here:

GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writings šŸ¤“ (online) (Aug 2025)

For this hybrid event, we will give people the chance to join online, too! Please register at this event if you prefer to join online: https://www.meetup.com/how-to-become-a-writer/events/311725554/

FUN WRITING CHALLENGE āœļøšŸ˜„ with Jakarta Creatives Vol. VI

Magia Coffee Fatmawati, Jl. RS. Fatmawati Raya No.6A, RT.4/RW.5, Jakarta, ID

Hello, Jakarta Creative! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet?
Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you might take at the event 😊

JakCre and JakFri is THE biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta ...and we invite you to join us for this FUN WRITING CHALLENGE Vol. VI

Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.

Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.

    ABOUT THE EVENT

So, how quickly can you come up with creative ideas in writing? Let’s give this brain gymnastics a shot!

We will meet for a circa 2-hour session at Magia Coffee for our creative writing challenges. The writing challenge is as follows:

    1. Prepare your writing kit (pen and paper, notebook, laptop, phone … take your pick)
    2. The theme for each writing challenge session will be different. (For example: ā€œFOOLS". You can refer to anything you like, from April Fool’s Day to simply feeling silly for doing something.)
    3. You have ONLY 30 minutes to write anything based on that theme, whether it’s a poem, a flash fiction, a short story, or just a rant.
    4. After 30 minutes, gather and start sharing what you have just written. (This is, of course, OPTIONAL for those willing to do it.)

Just show up and dive into the challenge. Everyone will be working on their stuff, and we won't discuss it during writing. You’ll surprise yourself with what you can do in such a short time.

After the sharing session, you’re welcome to resume your writing mode or simply hang out and chat about writing or anything related. We can also share each other's texts and give feedback, if that's something someone would like to do.

We have organised this event many times before! Take a look here:

Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.

    ABOUT THE EVENT

The idea is very simple: we will meet and discuss the book. Everyone will receive a copy of the book as PDF beforehand for free (which we kindly ask not to share with everyone - this is a book discussion for educational purposes). Please reach out to the host to receive your free PDF and feel free to ask any question in the discussion section of the event page.

Everyone is encouraged to read the short book (in English, about 100 pages) beforehand to participate to the discussion. Coming without having read the book is possible, but just half the fun.

The host will give a short introduction about the book and guide through the discussion, which will be very informal and fun. Everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions to the group. This event is introvert friendly! No one will be put on the spot or forced to speak. Just join and share your passion for literature, no matter how much you read.

This is a dream event for anyone who wishes to take a deep dive into literature and have a fun, social lunch time. Our book club will be in English. Everyone's English level is OK as this is a nice occasion to practice English in an informal and welcoming setting.

    ===================================

    About the book

One of the most hilarious, witty, and wildly mind-bending piece of literature ever conceived. Douglas Adams' critically acclaimed and widely loved first foray into this wacky inter-galactic philosophical adventure begs the question and poses the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything; What else do you want from a book?

Come join us and embark on whatever the hell this is. Oh, and don't forget to bring a towel!
