About us

We are Jakarta Writers.
Join the community! It doesn't matter if you just pick up pen and paper or if you are writing since years; it doesn't matter what and how often you write.

This group is perfect for all those interested in storytelling, and in exploring and developing their craft.

We are the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta... and we invite you to join us! Everyone is welcome.

Jakarta Writers (former Jakarta Creatives) is the community to explore, practice, or enjoy all forms of writing and creativity in Jakarta. Other than regular writing events and workshops we do book clubs, book swaps, comedy events as well as occasionally attend museums and poetry open mics, watch movies, and much more!

Together with the group Jakarta Friends (which mostly focus on social activities) we are all about authentic connections in an uncomplicated and informal setting.

Together, we are creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. This community is a convergence of people and cultures.

Over the past 3,5 years, with Jakarta Writers & Jakarta Friends we have had over 250 events with about 2,000 attendees! Everyone should always feel welcome to join disregarding from their ethnicity, nationality, religion, creed, age, language skills, gender identification, sexual orientation, background, ability, income, social status, or any other arbitrary trait.

We have a yearly membership fee to join our events. This is explained in detail in every event description. The membership fee is not expensive and gives access to all events, while guaranteeing that hosting events remains sustainable for the organisers. There's much more value to members in a yearly fee than in an event fee.

We guarantee to keep organising plenty of events and the fee is refundable if the group closes down or if there are no events for more than three months. You can attend the first event for a sneak peek price!

You can also connect via chat and social media:

You are invited to **join the group Jakarta Friends, too 👉🏼 https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-friends/** With Jakarta Friends we eat and drink together, play board games, talk business, socialize, do language exchanges, explore the city by walking and culinary tours, and much more!

We look forward to meet you at a next event!
Corrado & the team of co-organisers

An important note about this community: This group welcomes everyone who genuinely wants to connect. The organisers won't tolerate any of the following behaviours:

  • marketing promotions without checking with the admin first (including aggressive marketing strategies, pet trading, self-centered offers, non-relevant posts)
  • negativity and blaming (including spreading false information, criticizing without offering a honest feedback or alternative solutions)
  • harrassement, discrimination, intolerance, disrespectful behaviour
  • it's important that people respect RSVP at event, and are respectful of everyone's time and efforts in organising events
  • anyone who feels unsafe or unwelcome at an event is encouraged to report this to the organisers or to the Meetup help center

Hello, Jakarta Writer! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet? Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you will take at the event 😊

JakWri and JakFri is the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this WRITERS' CLUB: Give and receive FEEDBACK on your writing! 📖✍️🤓

Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.
Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.

ABOUT THE EVENT

What's one of the most difficult part in writing? Getting high-quality feedback!

This event addresses exactly this! Plus, writers will have the chance to be part of a friendly community and a support system for fellow creatives. We want to help and elevate each other!

This is what we will do: We will meet at the indicated time (please don't be late) and everyone who wishes to can drop their name on a box for a lucky draw. One person is selected by chance and will need to have a text of any kind (poetry/fiction/non-fiction/essay/article/script/blog/music lyrics/whatever!) ready to share with everyone on a Google drive folder.

Then everyone will take their time and read the piece(s) on their own. We allocate about 90 minutes quiet reading time. Readers will take notes on what they wish to give feedback to. The author is also welcome to brief readers on what they should pay attention to or give feedback on.

People who wishes to be there as readers only (that is, without putting their name in the lucky draw box), are most welcome to! The crucial part is that everyone needs to be respectful of each other's craft and give polite, constructive feedback!

After reading time, there is the feedback time! For about 90 minutes, we will discuss what we have read, and give feedback to the author.
Sounds easy, fun, and productive? It is. Everyone will have the chance to learn something new! This event doesn't require any preparation! We will read and give feedback on the spot.

It's important that everyone is on time and ready to share their text on Google Drive for everyone to read, so that we can start without delays!

This will be a unique occasion to receive a feedback on your writings (of any kind) and to practice your ability to give and receive feedbacks on texts!

Just be ready to share (not mandatory) a piece of your writing of about 2,000 words (1,000 to 10,000 words is OK, too, but be aware that a shorter piece is more likely to receive plenty of feedback) as a Google Drive link and grant people access to read.

We have done this event many times before! Take a look here:

Hello, Jakarta Writer! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet?
Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you might take at the event 😊

JakWri and JakFri is the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this SHUT! UP! AND! WRITE! #59!

Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle. Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.

    ABOUT THE EVENT

So, you want to write? Then shut up and write! Writing is 0.01% "inspiration" and 99.99% getting down to it.

We will meet for a circa 2-hour writing session at Dunkin' Donuts Fatmawati, a quite outlet in the heart of Jakarta Selatan.

It doesn't matter if you are an established writer or if you are picking up pen and paper for the first time. Just show up, get down to it, and start writing. Everyone will be working on their own thing, and we won't talk during writing. If you need some prompt or suggestion on what to write, I'll be happy to give you some ideas.

After the circa 2-hour writing session session, we will switch off our laptops and close our notebooks (but if you want to keep going, feel free!) and chill down. We can also share each other texts and give feedback, if that's something someone would like to do.

    The rules of the game:

    1. We aim to start together in order not to disrupt the process for everyone. Please be on time.
    2. No talking at the table during writing! After arriving at the table, we will focus on our own writing
    3. You can take as many breaks as you want of course

Don't be late as we want to start writing together, and please do update your RSVP at least 24h before the event if you cannot come, else you will take away a spot from a person in the waitlist. Don't be that persons! Repeated no-shows will be kicked from the group.

We have organised this event before! You can see a few past events here:
