Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge
ITS MAGIC MILE TIME!!!
This is our second timed mile run of 2022 to determine the appropriate training pace as well as racing pace for those of you running the Bristol Half! We will be covering about 5 miles total between the warm up, mile timed run, and cool down.
We'll start with an easy 1.5 mile warm up walk/run on the southern part of the Ocean View Loop at Sachuest: https://onthegomap.com/s/spjee98k
We'll then run to the bottom of the hill to the median which will serve as the start/finish line of the magic mile. Everyone will run down towards the RV park against traffic, cross the crosswalk, then cross the street to run against traffic back towards Sachuest for a total of 1 mile....note that you turnaround after you completely cross the crosswalk and cross the street to run against traffic...https://onthegomap.com/s/s66qh3ic
After that, we'll do an easy cool down full loop run around Sachuest Point to finish at about 5 miles: https://onthegomap.com/s/5uee6gk3
Recommendations for post run breakfast include Atlantic Grill (http://www.atlanticgrille.com)) and Sweet Berry Farm (http://www.sweetberryfarmri.com)..)

SOME IMPORTANT REMINDER NOTES
1 - PLEASE KEEP THE RUNS SLOW!! We are in warm weather season and the runs are getting longer! You should slow down your normal training run pace by 30 sec for each 5 degrees above 60 degrees F to prevent overheating. If you need to add walk breaks, please do so. YOU WILL NOT LOSE FITNESS BY RUNNING SLOWER IN THE HEAT!! Your heart rate will naturally increase on these hotter runs - PLEASE don't overdo it!!!
2 - Be self sufficient! Carry your phone, some cash/credit card, and, most importantly, water and food! We will obviously stop along the way for bathroom/water breaks but you need to have enough water to carry you in-between these points. These long runs are the time for you to experiment and see what works for you! Don't wait until a race to try something new!
3 - LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER!!! We run as a group and take care of each other! If you see someone falling back, alert a pace group leader (if they are not already there) and make sure they are ok! We should always run as slow as the slowest person in the group on these long runs - you will NOT lose fitness...its all about time on your feet and getting your body used to the distance!!!
4 - If needed/desired, change the walk/run ration mid-run. We have enough pace group leaders in each group to break the groups into sub-groups mid-run if needed. If you feel yourself getting tired and having a hard time keeping up, change to a shorter walk/run ratio and alert a pace group leader to form your own walk/run group. The key is not how fast you finish the long run but rather making sure you finish the long run STRONG and with ENERGY TO SPARE!!!
- July 13: 5 Mile Run (and Post Run Yoga)Empire Tea & Coffee, Newport, RI
6:30 AM START TIME!!! Here's an opportunity to practice your half or full marathon goal pace...adjust for the heat as needed!
Take your magic mile time and check out the Jeff Galloway prediction calculator and corresponding run/walk ratio charts ( http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/magic-mile/ ). If you have questions, send a message!
Push the pace a bit and see what its like to run at your goal pace! Of course if you’re not feeling like pushing the pace for whatever reason...DON’T! Just enjoy moving and being outside!!
PLEASE!! Remember to adjust your pace based on the temperature, i.e. slow down 30sec/mile for every 5 degrees above 60 degrees! Read Chapter 23 "Dealing with the weather" in your Galloway E-Book!!
THE ROUTE: https://onthegomap.com/s/2dij3d7l
NOTE #1…The hills thrown in on this route are completely intentional :-) However, you have the option to choose which direction you want to run this loop in! How do you like to take your hills???
NOTE #2…I believe the Cliff Walk is still closed in parts, so run on Ochre Point past the Breakers instead of that little Cliff Walk bit :)
As always, try to stick together in pairs or small groups!! No one should be running alone....this is a run group after all!! :-)
Coffee/breakfast afterwards nearby for anyone that's interested!
Consider going for a lovely post run/easy stretch Yoga option at 9:30AM at Norman Bird Sanctuary! Details here: https://www.sacred-center.org/beachside-yoga.php
