Potluck Picnic 'n' Paddle Sugar River August 31

Sunday, August 31, 11am, meet at Paoli Park in Paoli, WI. Share a light picnic meal, and afterward paddle the Sugar River.

Bring a picnic brunch for yourself and something to share (optional). There is a great cafe across the street from the Park in Paoli. Come early if you can. We will eat & socialize 11am-12pm, then shuttle vehicles (https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-242/events/201925612/?action=edit#) & aim for getting on the water by 1pm. We will set some desserts aside for after paddling treats at trip's end in Belleville. After trip libations are welcome. Plan accordingly. If you cannot come for the meal you are welcome to arrive just in time to paddle.

Bring your usual paddling gear, including sunscreen, insect repellant, dry change of clothes, and plenty of water. Adding (https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-242/events/201925612/?action=edit#) a durable pair of water tolerant gloves may be a good idea for hand protection, too. There may be rough, wet limbs and branches to remove (https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-242/events/201925612/?action=edit#) to clear the way. We will put-in at Cty A, and take-out at the boat launch in Belleville Community Park.

We will paddle this lovely winding river through shaded groves, peaceful marshes, and open pastures. Plan on being on the river maybe 3 hrs, depending on conditions, with a sandbar leg stretch break mid-trip. If weather turns dangerous a cancellation notice will be posted at 9am. Otherwise come and enjoy the trip.

Erin Jannsen and Reid Miller will co-lead this fun paddle. It is a relaxed, beginner-friendly outing for paddlers accustomed to - or adventurous about experiencing - gently winding waterways. Medium length and shorter boats may be a plus.

After paddling take a swim in the Sugar or Lake Belle View (https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-242/events/201925612/?action=edit#), if you like. A deep water rescue practice (https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-242/events/201925612/?action=edit#) session is also planned for all who are interested in observing or taking part.
