Presented by Rev. Fushin Eva Hermogenes
Mondo Zen is a vehicle for inducing and transmitting enlightened mind to end suffering. This awareness is known and revered in Eastern traditions as Emptiness. Mondo Zen uses experiential Emptiness to examine emotional reactions and conditioned responses, and transform them into compassionate, wise, responses. This is the essence of skillful means. Why is the experience of Emptiness essential?
In a word, perspective. A sustained experience of enlightened mind allows the ego to examine its own composition and emotional triggers, and see its own neuroses and pathologies.
Without this experience, all scripture is potentially fiction and all speaking of scriptures is parroting – pointing at the moon.
Mondo Zen is different from therapy and other spiritual traditions. Its methodology includes Jungian shadow work and voice dialogue. It’s a post-modern, Integral (Ken Wilber) approach, while it also works extensively with uncovering the nuanced layers of emotion and perception that underlie egoic reactivity.
Fushin works with individuals through Mondo sessions, and practice support of the Five Practice Mirrors in Hollow Bones.
INFORMATION
Mondo Zen™ employs the use of koans to help the practitioner achieve a deeper and direct understanding of emotional issues. Koans are questions designed to boggle the body / mind in order to transcend it. The experience is like driving uphill in a manual car. When you downshift to a lower gear to compensate for the angle, things are suddenly smoother. This is the effect of the Mondo Zen™ series of koans -they force you straight up a mountain of ego and unconscious conditioning to a pinnacle of clarity. But in order to make it up, you must to downshift and go deeper in your understanding. It happens naturally, miraculously. Stripped of unconsciousness, your emotions become your allies into deeper enlightenment.
MODERN-DAY KOANS
There is a new form of Zen (http://www.examiner.com/topic/zen) available that will appeal to many people who have previously overlooked Zen. It is an immediate and direct pathway to awakening and problem solving. It’s called Mondo Zen. In the span of a single Mondo Zen™ session, you can experience what a lifetime of psychotherapy and tens of thousands of dollars of counseling may fail to accomplish.

DIRECTIONS: From Rancho Santa Fe Road, turn onto El Camino Del Norte. Go 6/10 of a mile, then turn Left onto Val Sereno. When Val Sereno dead ends at Via de Caballo, turn Right. At the dead end cul de sac, turn Right at a large wooden sign with house numbers and follow the narrow extension down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, turn Left. Our half of the townhouse is at the end, 3197, double green doors.
Parking is limited. One car can park in front of our end of the duplex. One car can park to the right of my duplex neighbor. Three cars can park in the guest slots before the townhouse. The rest of you will have to park at the top of the hill before the wooden sign and then walk down the hill. I suggest that you bring a flash light to return up the hill to your car. Sorry for this inconvenience.
