In June we explored The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible with interactive and experiential exercises to get a deeper understanding. Everyone there wanted to continue the process in July, so it's back by popular demand.

We will continue to explore some of the ideas and discover ways to invite greater participation in the New Story.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Here are my notes for the June meeting. I'll add more for the July meeting.

Ask who is familiar with the story of interbeing. Story of paper and cloud.

Exercise 1

Wander around the meeting space exploring the space from a place of the story of separation. Look at how objects and people might benefit you, how they are different from you and are less than you.

Eloy talks about the broken promises of technology and society (both positive and negative). The hope that Bernie ushers in great change, the idea that maybe we deserve Trump and need someone like him to wake us up

Now walk around from the story of Interbeing. See objects as connected to you, as part of you. See other people as you. Look into you partners eyes deeply to feel the connection.

That my being partakes of your being and that of all beings. This goes beyond interdependency—our very existence is relational. That, therefore, what we do to another, we do to ourselves. That each of us has a unique and necessary gift to give the world. That the purpose of life is to express our gifts. Pair up or in small groups discuss the experience of each. Talk about what’s true for each experience. Take turns talking about where in your lives you experience separateness and connectedness.

Exercise 2

Give example of recycling

UL interior reality (how she/he feels, pride, sense of duty)

UR exterior reality (how she/he behaves)

LL collective interior reality (shared values the encourage her to recycle)

LR collective exterior reality (economic and transportation systems that enable recycling)

Pair up and talk about ways you and we are inhibiting or enabling sustainability from the AQAL perspectives.

Look at the quadrants to see if one quadrant is more involved than others. Imagine the 4 quadrants tetra-arising (All quadrants activated at the same time in interacting with each other). Discuss how the quadrant awareness impacts you.

Exercise 3

In small groups , discuss your cynicism/despair and compare to your optimism/naivete. What’s true about each of these? What’s true outside of these? Where does your cynicism/despair keep you from participating? Where does your optimism/naivete lead you astray?

Exercise 4

Group discussion – how do we as a group go from the action of exploring The More Beautiful World to participating more fully in bringing about a more beautiful world? Where are we in the developmental model? Let’s look at our steps to evolve

From the book:
Throughout the book, Eisenstein relates real-life stories showing how small, individual acts of courage, kindness, and self-trust can change our culture’s guiding narrative of separation, which, he shows, has generated the present planetary crisis. He brings to conscious awareness a deep wisdom we all innately know: until we get our selves in order, any action we take—no matter how good our intentions—will ultimately be wrongheaded and wronghearted. Above all, Eisenstein invites us to embrace a radically different understanding of cause and effect, sounding a clarion call to surrender our old worldview of separation, so that we can finally create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.
With chapters covering separation, interbeing, despair, hope, pain, pleasure, consciousness, and many more, the book invites us to let the old Story of Separation fall away so that we can stand firmly in a Story of Interbeing.
The print version is available on Amazon or from the publisher directly. Other on-line booksellers, such as Better World Books or IndieBound carry the book as well. Or better yet, ask for it at your local bookstore.
There is an audiobook available, and you can find all of the places to purchase it here.
You can find the e-book here.

DIRECTIONS: From Rancho Santa Fe Road, turn onto El Camino Del Norte. Go 6/10 of a mile, then turn Left onto Val Sereno. When Val Sereno dead ends at Via de Caballo, turn Right. At the dead end cul de sac, turn Right at a large wooden sign with house numbers and follow the narrow extension down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, turn Left. Our half of the townhouse is at the end, 3197, double green doors.

Parking is limited. One car can park in front of our end of the duplex. One car can park to the right of my duplex neighbor. Three cars can park in the guest slots before the townhouse. The rest of you will have to park at the top of the hill before the wooden sign and then walk down the hill. I suggest that you bring a flash light to return up the hill to your car. Sorry for this inconvenience.

If you get lost, call Anne's home phone, 858-759-9215. See you soon.
