Evening Walk on the Thompson Creek Trail

Want to get a taste of the Outdoor Nation without having to climb up a steep mountain trail? Come join us for a nice evening walk on the Thompson Creek Trail in Claremont. If you're looking for a good beginner hike, this is it.

The Thompson Creek Trail runs alongside a flood control channel south of the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, from Mills Ave to Towne Ave. For the most part, the Thompson Creek Trail is a smooth, paved bicycle path with about 300 feet of elevation gain.

We'll meet at the Thompson Creek Equestrian & Bicylce Trail parking lot on Indian Hill Avenue and walk westerly about 1 mile to Towne Avenue, where we will take a short break before returning back to our starting point and then continuing easterly all the way to Mills Avenue and back, making it 4.5 miles total.

For those wanting a shorter, 2 mile walk, you may join us up to Towne Ave and then end your walk back at the trailhead. Totally up to you. Since we're starting this walk in the middle you'll have that option if you choose.

There are restrooms at the nearby Higginbotham Park, about a half mile west of the trailhead, which we will pass on our way to Towne Ave.

DISTANCE: 4.5 miles RT

DIFFICULTY: This is considered an easy walk on a flat surface.

WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable clothing, walking shoes and enough water to properly hydrate yourself for 4.5 miles of walking. For most people 1-2 bottles of water is sufficient.

NO PLUS ONE'S: Even though this is an easy walk, we still require that each participant sign up for this event separately so we know who's coming and so each participant is fully aware of the event description and liability waiver. If you have someone you'd like to bring, just have them join the group and RSVP. Please don't ask if you can bring a Plus One. If you do, I will just direct you back to this paragraph. :-)

DIRECTIONS: From the 210 Freeway, exit at Baseline in Claremont and drive west. Proceed 1.5 miles and turn right on Indian Hill Blvd. Drive north on Indian Hill Blvd 0.5 miles to the Thompson Creek Equestrian & Bicycle Trail parking lot on your left at 2471 N. Indian Hill Blvd. The approximate GPS for the parking lot is: 34.129119, -117.720514.
