Learn to Play Chess!

PLEASE READ ABOUT THE LESSONS AND OUR OTHER MEETUPS:
-This group offers something for every current and future chess player. We are an open, friendly, safe and welcoming group. All ages and skill levels can join us!
-For those new or returning to the game, or who want their children to learn, I offer group instruction at the rate of $10 per person per lesson. Through a repeating series of 3 lessons, I teach on an interactive wall board and provide accompanying handouts for each three-hour lesson. Lessons are offered only at our featured Saturday afternoon meetups, which happen once or twice per month - check the "Upcoming events" section on our main page for the schedule, as these meetups are posted a few weeks in advance. Each lesson builds off of the previous one, so it is best to take them in sequence. In addition to the beginners' lessons, we also have open play at these Saturday meetups, where other players can also come and play friendly games while I am teaching. We play social unrated games, blitz, rapid or untimed.
-We have an online home (https://lichess.org/team/learn-to-play-chess-meetup-denver-co) and in-person meetups every day of the week all over the Denver and Colorado Springs metro areas. Lessons are not offered at any of these other events, but many players are willing to help during games. We have players ranging from beginner up to USCF/FIDE Master in the group, so there will always be people at your level. If possible, please bring a board and set (and clock if desired) when attending any of our meetups. Further details about each event's logistics can be found in the respective event listings. There are typically more people attending than what you may see on the listing, so I always encourage people to keep their RSVPs accurate so others know who will be there.
-IMPORTANT: you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend.
-Whether you are new to the game, played it long ago, or have been playing for years, chess is a lifelong hobby. I have taught chess for over 30 years in Colorado and I am willing to discuss private lessons as well. Come join us for a game - it's your move!
