- Carl Wark and Stanage Edge (14 - 15 miles)Redmires Reservoir, Sheffield
If you fancy exploring the Peak District this weekend, you will be most welcome to join us on this walk in gritstone territory to the west of Sheffield.
The walk will start at Redmires Car Park (Grid ref SK 257857), which can be reached from the A57 near its junction with the A6101 Rivelin Valley road, by climbing up the steep Lodge Lane, turning right at the crossroads into Redmires Road, and following this road for some 2 miles to the car park at Redmires reservoir. We plan to start at 9.45 prompt so please allow time for changing into boots, etc.
From the car park, the route takes us in a south-easterly direction over moorland to Ox Stones and then onto Carl Wark, the site of an Iron Age hill fort. We continue over Higger Tor and climb onto Stanage Edge with hopefully some panoramic views of the Derwent Valley and Kinder Scout, and then proceed in a northerly direction towards the A57. The final section of the walk takes us into the Rivelin Valley and over moorland back to the car park.
This is a CHA 'A' walk of 14 - 15 miles in length with a total ascent of around 1,600 feet and while much of it is on decent tracks, there could be some boggy sections after all the recent rain. We expect to finish between 4.30 and 5.00pm.
There is no charge to attend the first three CHA walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership fee of only £6. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club.
