Sharp Haw and Cracoe Obelisk

Details

You will be most welcome to join us on this classic circuit in the Yorkshire Dales near Skipton, with hopefully some great views on the day. (This event has been rescheduled from 5 January)
The walk will commence at Embsay Reservoir car park, which can be reached from Skipton Bypass, following signs for Embsay, to the Elm Tree Inn, and then following Pasture Road (W then NW) out of the village. This will take you all the way up the hill to the reservoir car park.

From the car park our route climbs up onto Crookrise, and after crossing Waterfall Gill Beck ascends via Rylstone Cross to Cracoe Obelisk, which is the high point of the walk. From here we descend to Cracoe village and continue to picturesque Rylstone, and then make our way across fields to eventually climb up to Sharp Haw. We descend towards the B6265 road and follow field paths and minor roads back to our starting point.

This will be a Leeds CHA 'A' walk and will be fairly strenuous, being some 13 to 14 miles long with about 2400 feet of ascent. We will aim to start walking at around 09.45am, and intend to finish no later than 5.00pm.

There is no charge to attend the first three CHA walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership of only £6. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club.
