This group is for anyone who finds themselves with these little inner cravings for travel and the mountains. We welcome anyone, especially beginners or recreational hikers, of all ages and fitness levels.
Our aim is to encourage more outdoor travel and experiential learning; to inspire and encourage each other to step out of their comfort zone and enjoy the mountains along with new learning experiences. We wish to encourage a healthy living and fitness, along with appreciating nature as a lifestyle.
Also, we do not wish to be little monsters as travellers. We strive to promote sustainable travel, along with understanding and appreciating local culture. We hope that the experience more than just enjoying yourself and "YOLO".
Therefore, we try to make our trips as affordable and accessible for people.
For this meetup group, feel free to have discussions on trips or any questions on travelling or hiking.
Our trips primarily revolve around having mountains in the region. We do less of Malaysia and more of the other parts of the world to enjoy the different mountain ranges and areas in the world. However, we do some hikes in Malaysia just to build confidence and trust, or also for practical reasons as they usually don't require leave.
Do not worry if you are totally new! We wish to encourage newbies or first-time travellers/hikers/trekkers.
We will try to cater for different trips of varying difficulties. On top of that, each trip will come with advised training and detailed info-kits and briefing, explaining the difficulty and preparation for it!
You can fill up some forms if you wish to be contacted to help arrange trips for you. You may fill up the forms multiple times if you are interested in various trips, or just drop me a WA or email. These forms allow us to help group and gather people together to *make trips happen!* (Also helps for planning leave)

Gunung Datuk is a good challenging (depends on who you ask) starting hike and introduction to trekking for beginners or first-timers who wish to know what hiking really entails! It is also one of the more fun short-day hikes for the adventurous!
Mount Datuk (885m) is an extremely popular 1-day beginner hike located in Malaysia, about an hour away from Malacca.
The hike takes an average of 2.5h up and 2.5h down. It is not too long, yet challenging and strenuous enough for a half-day hike. There are some very steep parts and the trek requires using your hands. Additionally, there are minor rope sections and ladders near the summit. This trek can be challenging for beginners so be prepared for a fun adventurous experience.
At the summit, there is a nice view of the surroundings and we can take a break on the rocks and enjoy the wind before descending! After that, the plan is to hunt for some good food in Malacca! If we end earlier, there will be more time for free and easy along Jonker street.
Of course within the group, there will be people of various speeds. Those faster can have more time at the summit and wash up first. Please be patient for the slower ones!
The intention of the trip is to introduce newbies who haven't tried trekking before so please be patient and welcoming! It is important to be open-minded and sporting enough to embrace challenges! There are mosquitoes and leeches abound =) Do note it is NOT a walk in the park
To confirm, do RSVP and send me a whatsapp message! A Whatsapp group will be set up.

Email: info@littlemonsterstravel.netSome additional questions:
- How long is the ride to Mount Datuk
A: It takes only around 3-4h from Singapore - Datuk/Malacca.
- The journey to Datuk only takes 3 hours, why do we set off so early?
A: This is so that we can save money on accommodation/driver cost/taxi to MRT station. This also means there is a lack of sleep, so try to sleep in the vehicle! Bring a travel pillow!
- Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park?
A: Very basic shower and toilet facilities. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Datuk. No smelly people in the vehicle!
- Do I get to see the sunrise at the top?
A: Maybe. Depends on how comfortable everyone is with walking with headlights.
- I am totally new to hiking, what should I bring/wear? Is there training?
A: I will set up a WhatsApp group for questions and provide some info-kit to prepare. Most important is being open =)
- How fit do I have to be? I am afraid of being the slowest/burden to the group.
A: You would need basic endurance and be open-minded, embrace the challenge of using your hands and going up and down rocks or steep terrain. Many people have done Datuk, of various fitness, the group will move at a slower pace to help build that confidence.
- What happens if it rains!
A: If it is a light drizzle, we would continue. Usually we'll continue, or wait until the heavy rain stops. If it rains, it'll be slippery so go slow!
- [Hiking Series] M'sia - Ophir (1,276m) via Asahan: Challenging full day hike!Marsiling (NS8) MRT Station , Singapore 739044
*If interested, please whatsapp wa.me/+6588842635 or +65 8884 2635! We have limited permits and must be applied in advance. Sign-ups are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! *
Gunung Ledang, or commonly known as Mount Ophir (1,276m) is the highest mountain in Johor and almost the most climbed mountain there.
This is a good step-up hike for those who are looking to progress to tougher hikes after Gunung Datuk or are training or preparing for Kinabalu/Nepal etc.
There are 2 main trails for Mount Ophir, the more popular and accessible "Sagil", and the "Asahan Trail". For this trip, we are looking to do the Asahan Trail, which is harder than the Sagil hike. There is also a cut-off timing to the summit/CP which we'll enforce more strictly compared to Sagil.
Who is this for?
=> People who wish to challenge themselves
=> Have done Ophir before but never done the Asahan Trail
=> Wish to do a tough full day hikeIt serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking. Most do it as training for other treks, like Kinabalu, or Nepal. Do note that we are looking to descend by around 6pm, so we expect some level of fitness or hiking experience for the group!
How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?
It is harder and longer than the Sagil hike. The trek is around 5+h up and 3-4h down, making it a total of 9h to 10h, depending on your speed. The total elevation is ~1300m up and down. It can and will be extremely tiring on your legs. The distance is can be a total of 14-16km in total!
It is generally tropical forest trail, with some rope portions, ladders and rock faces. It can be quite fun to go through the different terrain with the need to use your hands at some points.
However, if you have done Gunung Datuk before, the terrain is not that much of a surprise. The tough part is only the duration.
This is good for people who have some level of fitness and hiking experience. As this can be quite a challenging route, the group pace will be quite fast and we'll push at a certain speed.
There is a 1 guide to 7 hikers ratio. There is also a cut-off timing to the summit/CP which we'll enforce more strictly compared to Sagil. If you fail to make it you will have to turn back unfortunately, as the distance is long. We aim to descend latest by 6pm.

- [Hiking Series]Indonesia-Mount Merbabu(3,145m): 2D1N Camping Hike via SuwantingLittle Monsters Travel, Singapore
*If interested, please whatsapp wa.me/+6588842635 or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! *
Looking to introduce hikers to camping and hiking the majestic Mount Merbabu (3,145m) with a 2D1N camping experience!
Mount Merbabu is a beginner-friendly mountain and suitable for those who wish to experience a multi-day hike or mountain beyond Malaysia ones. It is located at Yogyakarta which is famous for the UNESCO heritage temples and Mount Merapi. Unfortunately, Mount Merapi can't be climbed so Mount Merbabu is a better and more beautiful option!
We will hike Mount Merbabu (3,145m), which is a dormant stratovolcano, that overlooks Mount Merapi and Yogyakarta. While sadly they do not allow to a traverse route, we will intend to do a slightly longer 2D1N camping trek via Suwanting.
At the top of Mount Merbabu, you will be rewarded with an amazing 360-degree unobstructed view of Mount Merapi as well as the other surrounding mountains in the region. One can see 7 significant peaks: Gunung Sumbing, Gunung Sindoro, the Dieng Plateau, Gunung Telomoyo, Gunung Ungaran, Gunung Merapi, and Gunung Lawu.
Please note that although it is can be doable for those who are not very experienced as it is not very technical, it will still be tiring as Suwanting is a long route. An open mindset is required =)
Who is this for?
==> One who wish to experience hiking and camping
==> First time to experiencing a proper Indonesia mountain and hike
==> A hike with a beautiful summit view (weather dependent)
==> Open savannah hike and camping under the stars!
==> Something strenuous enough for it to be memorable
==> Step up from Ijen/BaturIt is suitable for first-timers to camping as the trek is longer but not too overly strenuous. However, one is expected to walk 6-8 hours up and down per day for 2 days.
This is similar to doing 1.5 Mount Ophirs in Malaysia over 2 days

Gunung Rajah (1,680m) is part of the same area as Genting Highlands and Bukit Kutu, as they belong to the same section of the Titiwangsa mountains near Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB). It is one of the more challenging hikes from KL. One of the highlights about Gunung Rajah is the challenge, as well as the clear weather views from the summit. While there are 2 trails, we are starting from the one from KKB. Do note that this is a trip which requires a lot of flexibility as it can depend on how fast everyone hikes as well as weather conditions.
Who is this for?
=> People who wish to/can challenge themselves (I would say to the point of torture)
=> People who have done full day hikes (e.g. Ophir) and wish to challenge themselves further
=> Wish to hike more than 12h and deal with undulating trails
=> Training for tough hikes (high altitude hikes etc)

Hike Details
The total distance is ~26km and total elevation gain is ~2000m.The hike is around 12-18h in total, depending on your speed. This is almost 2x as long as Ophir Asahan hike. It can and will be extremely tiring on your mind, body and legs.It is generally tropical forest trail, with some rope portions, ladders, rivers. Do note that there will be lots of ups and downs so be mentally prepared for it.
This is good for people who have some level of fitness and hiking experience. As this can be quite a challenging route, the group pace will be quite fast and we'll push at a certain speed.
There is also a cut-off timings which we'll enforce more strictly. If you fail to make it you will have to turn back unfortunately, as the distance is long. We aim to all be back down by 8pm.
