[Hiking Series] Taiwan Xueshan (3,886m): Taiwan's 2nd highest peak with camping!

Details

*THIS IS A CONFIRMED TRIP! If interested, please whatsapp wa.me/+6588842635 or +65 8884 2635! Permits MUST be booked 2 months in advanced. Deadline is 17 August. Sign-ups are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! *

Our attempt to change from Yushan to Xueshan (3,886m), Taiwan's 2nd highest peak! This will be a camping trip also! Do note that the trip is 5 days for us to maximise our chances with permits, and if the permits fails, we will be switching to immediately to Jiaming Hu Hike (Jiaming Lake Hike)!

Xueshan is a decent mountain for those who are scaling their first big mountain, similar to doing Kinabalu/Fuji, but wish to experience a bit of camping and staying in a lodge. The name is abit of a misnomer because most of the times when you hike there will not be snow. It is quite an accessible hike and doable for most people, although it will still be tough as it requires fitness and the weather conditions can change rapidly in the mountains.

Xueshan provides a wider variety of terrain, through "crying slope" which is a slightly steeper open slope, the famous and beautiful "black forest", before a last rocky terrain towards the summit.

The route in general is a gradual incline up, there are 2 lodges (with 369 cabin under renovation), so we'll camp at the temporary campsite before the summit push instead. Hopefully with good weather, this will be a memorable first big mountain summit that's almost 4,000m.

However, Taiwan's permit system is notorious leading to limited permits (sounds familiar? hint KK). Permits are therefore quite tightly controlled, and we require to book 2 months in advance to ensure the highest chances of us being able to do it.

We will do a 2D2N hike to Xueshan summit, with camping in between. Due to the permits, we'll book an extra day of flight, so we can account for the change of hike if required.

Please note that although it is can be doable for those who are not very experienced as it is not very technical, it will still be tiring. An open mindset, perseverance and base fitness is required =)

Who is this for?

==> One who wish to experience hiking their first proper first big mountain and "high altitude" at almost 4,000m
==> Hiking a 2D hike with 1 night camping
==> Experiencing Taiwan's lodges (similar to how other trails will be like)
==> A hike with beautiful and different terrain along the way (weather dependent)
==> Want a hike similar to Kinabalu/Fuji
==> Something strenuous enough for it to be memorable
==> Step up from Ijen/Batur

It is suitable for first-timers to camping as the trek is longer but not too overly strenuous. However, one is expected to walk 6-8 hours up and down per day for 2 days.

This is similar to doing 2 Mount Ophirs in Malaysia over 2 days
