This group is for anyone who finds themselves with these little inner cravings for travel and the mountains. We welcome anyone, especially beginners or recreational hikers, of all ages and fitness levels.
Our aim is to encourage more outdoor travel and experiential learning; to inspire and encourage each other to step out of their comfort zone and enjoy the mountains along with new learning experiences. We wish to encourage a healthy living and fitness, along with appreciating nature as a lifestyle.
Also, we do not wish to be little monsters as travellers. We strive to promote sustainable travel, along with understanding and appreciating local culture. We hope that the experience more than just enjoying yourself and "YOLO".
Therefore, we try to make our trips as affordable and accessible for people.
For this meetup group, feel free to have discussions on trips or any questions on travelling or hiking.
Our trips primarily revolve around having mountains in the region. We do less of Malaysia and more of the other parts of the world to enjoy the different mountain ranges and areas in the world. However, we do some hikes in Malaysia just to build confidence and trust, or also for practical reasons as they usually don't require leave.
Do not worry if you are totally new! We wish to encourage newbies or first-time travellers/hikers/trekkers.
We will try to cater for different trips of varying difficulties. On top of that, each trip will come with advised training and detailed info-kits and briefing, explaining the difficulty and preparation for it!
You can fill up some forms if you wish to be contacted to help arrange trips for you. You may fill up the forms multiple times if you are interested in various trips, or just drop me a WA or email. These forms allow us to help group and gather people together to *make trips happen!* (Also helps for planning leave)

Gunung Datuk is a good challenging (depends on who you ask) starting hike and introduction to trekking for beginners or first-timers who wish to know what hiking really entails! It is also one of the more fun short-day hikes for the adventurous!
Mount Datuk (885m) is an extremely popular 1-day beginner hike located in Malaysia, about an hour away from Malacca.
The hike takes an average of 2.5h up and 2.5h down. It is not too long, yet challenging and strenuous enough for a half-day hike. There are some very steep parts and the trek requires using your hands. Additionally, there are minor rope sections and ladders near the summit. This trek can be challenging for beginners so be prepared for a fun adventurous experience.
At the summit, there is a nice view of the surroundings and we can take a break on the rocks and enjoy the wind before descending! After that, the plan is to hunt for some good food in Malacca! If we end earlier, there will be more time for free and easy along Jonker street.
Of course within the group, there will be people of various speeds. Those faster can have more time at the summit and wash up first. Please be patient for the slower ones!
The intention of the trip is to introduce newbies who haven't tried trekking before so please be patient and welcoming! It is important to be open-minded and sporting enough to embrace challenges! There are mosquitoes and leeches abound =) Do note it is NOT a walk in the park

Email: info@littlemonsterstravel.netSome additional questions:
- How long is the ride to Mount Datuk
A: It takes only around 3-4h from Singapore - Datuk/Malacca.
- The journey to Datuk only takes 3 hours, why do we set off so early?
A: This is so that we can save money on accommodation/driver cost/taxi to MRT station. This also means there is a lack of sleep, so try to sleep in the vehicle! Bring a travel pillow!
- Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park?
A: Very basic shower and toilet facilities. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Datuk. No smelly people in the vehicle!
- Do I get to see the sunrise at the top?
A: Maybe. Depends on how comfortable everyone is with walking with headlights.
- I am totally new to hiking, what should I bring/wear? Is there training?
A: I will set up a WhatsApp group for questions and provide some info-kit to prepare. Most important is being open =)
- How fit do I have to be? I am afraid of being the slowest/burden to the group.
A: You would need basic endurance and be open-minded, embrace the challenge of using your hands and going up and down rocks or steep terrain. Many people have done Datuk, of various fitness, the group will move at a slower pace to help build that confidence.
- What happens if it rains!
A: If it is a light drizzle, we would continue. Usually we'll continue, or wait until the heavy rain stops. If it rains, it'll be slippery so go slow!

Gunung Lambak is quite a well-known hike amongst Singapore hikers, as it is nearby and extremely suitable for beginners with many different trails and short trails. However, we are not doing the usual short trail to the summit, instead we are doing a butterfly trail (somewhat of a loop) as training, where it'll be ~9-10km and 5-7h of hiking in total.
Background
Gunung Lambak (510m) is an extremely popular 1-day beginner hike located in Malaysia, about 2 hours from Singapore. Many locals and Singaporeans DIY this hike. It also acts as a good starting hike and introduction to trekking for beginners or first-timers, and often used as a good training hike for those experienced who extend the trails! The Hike
The hike takes an average of 5-7h in total. We'll head to the summit -> Microwave Station -> Big Tree -> Summit (lunch stop) -> Starting Point. Its the butterfly trail because of how it looks like...when you log it on your GPS (e.g. Strava etc)There are some steep parts which can be challenging and strenuous and requires using your hands. Additionally, there are minor rope sections. This trek can be challenging for beginners so be prepared for a fun adventurous experience.
The summit has a slight view of the city but not much of a view. Enjoy the breezy forest trek down before heading for a meal or free and easy activities. .

Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park?A: There are quite basic but clean toilets at the park. Be prepared to shower using a bucket of cold water and a pail. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Lambak. No smelly people in the vehicle!
How fit do I have to be? I am afraid of being the slowest/burden to the group.
A: You would need basic endurance and be open-minded, embrace the challenge of using your hands and steep terrain. Many people and locals climb Lambak everyday. However do note the distance, and it might not be suitable for you if you struggle with stairs, or walking <5km or to lunch everydayWhat happens if it rains!
A: We would continue if its light and go slowly, or wait it out most likely as tropical showers do not last long. Also, always expect to hike with rain - [Hiking Series] M'sia-Gunung Belumut(1,010m) + Rimau: Full-Day Training Hike!Marsiling (NS8) MRT Station , Singapore 739044
*If interested, please whatsapp wa.me/+6588842635 or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! *
As we don't just wish to do Belumut, we are going to do an extension which includes going to another "peak" Gua Rimau. Gunung Belumut (1,010m) is an excellent (some say challenging) day-hike near Kluang, which is around 2 hours from Singapore. It is often used as a training hike to keep up in fitness, or as preparation for other hikes as it gives you experience and preparation for other tougher hike in Malaysia, like Ophir, other G7 mountains in Malaysia, or Kinabalu. Due to its location, makes it a solid day hike, still have a good dinner and be back in SG in 1 day.
It is located in the Hutan Lipur Gunung Lumut (Mount Belumut Recreational Forest). There are 4 ‘checkpoints’ on the way to the peak. The trail is a forest trail which gets steeper, and some roped sections here and there. It serves as good training as the route is reasonably straight forward, and keeps ascending with little flat ground. The extension to Gua Rimau is an additional 3-4km (an additional ~1-2h total)
Most fit hikers can reach Belumut Summit in less than 4 hours, and Rimau in around 5h, and be back down in less than 4h, but average hikes take around 4h one way.
It is slightly longer than Lambak, Datuk or Angsi, but not as long as Ophir or Kinabalu. However, that also depends on the terrain conditions, so its at least solid day of hiking (8-11h)! Do note that there are leeches on this trail, and rain can make it slipper and muddy!
Who is this for?
It is most suitable for those who want to test their fitness and mental strength, experience a tougher hike other than Lambak or Datuk, or to do another hike other than the usual ones. It is also shorter than Ophir.
It serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking. Most do it as general training for other hikes.
How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?
The trek is inclduing the extension is around 5h up and 4h down, and can be 8-11h depending on your pace.
It is generally tropical forest trail, can be muddy, and there are some rope portions. The route is quite straight forward, but it just ascends all the way up.
However, if you have done Gunung Datuk/Lambak/Angsi before, the terrain is not that much of a surprise.
This is okay for newbies, as long as you have some level of fitness, if not it might be fun and challenging for those who are first time in Malaysia!
How many pax for the trip to happen?
Minimum 12 pax to start the trip!
Once confirmed, a Whatsapp group/info-session will be set up.

*If interested, please whatsapp wa.me/+6588842635 or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! *
Gunung Berembun Jelebu (1,014m) is an interesting hike with the chance of visiting a WWII plane crash site, while hiking through a dense rainforest with waterfalls and streams, and fallen trees. There are many "Gunung Berembun" but this is the one located in Negiri Sembilan! We will be doing the classic route via Kampung Pantai.
It is considered a full day hike, slightly shorter than Ophir. This is usually used as a training hike, and exposure to different elements and exploring a more raw trail, rather than a hike for the view itself.
Who is this for?
- It is most suitable for those who just want an interesting full-day hike out similar to Ophir, but less curated than the usual ones.
- It serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking. Most do it as general training for hikes.
- Wish to experience a more raw rainforest trail with less crowds, and different elements
- Wish to do a full-day hike nearby without travelling so far
- Wish to see a WWII plane crash site and wreckage
- Not for those who are hunting for a beautiful viewpoint at the summit
How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?
Duration: ~5h up, and 4h down. You can u-turn at the summit instead of going to the crash site.
Distance: ~7km one way, total of 14km.It is generally tropical forest trail, with some river, rope portions.
However, if you have done other Malaysia hikes before like Gunung Datuk/Lambak/Ophir before, the terrain is not that much of a surprise, except it is more raw. With the presence of streams, please do expect leeches!
