NOTE: Dogs and other pets are only allowed on Loma Prieta Pride Sierrans' hikes if indicated by the leader in the write up.
As of August 2021, the Sierra Club let us know we are free to start leading hikes again with the following guidelines/rules: If you are experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or are sick, you should not attend the hike or event. Masks and COVID vaccinations are not required on the hike or at events. You are welcome to wear a mask if it makes you comfortable. Keep in mind that you are potentially going to be on a trip with both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The number of people on a hike is limited to 10 to allow for easier social distancing among participants. Hikes will be rated as back country or front country. Back country hikes will require each participant to fill out a medical form at the start of the hike (provided by the hike leader) in order to participate in the hike. Front country hikes will operate as hikes did before the COVID pandemic.
Loma Prieta Pride Sierrans is an official activity section of the Loma Prieta chapter of the Sierra Club . We offer the gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, and transgender community and their allies a variety of outdoor activities mostly located on the Peninsula or in the South bay. We encourage participation in the Sierra Club's mission to explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth.
This meetup group will serve to publicize some of our outdoor activities but not all of them. To find out about all our activities visit our web site at https://www.sierraclub.org/loma-prieta/gls . Pulgas Water Temple Hike (Front Country)
Rating: 1A2 (3.6 miles, 200 feet)San Francisco built Pulgas Water Temple as a monument to the engineering marvel that brought Hetch Hetchy water more than 160 miles across California from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Bay Area. The temple is not open to cars on weekends, so we’ll meet at the intersection of Edgewood and Cañada Road at 9:45 am. We’ll walk the 1.8 miles to the temple on the Crystal Springs trail and view the temple and sit down and enjoy a snack and a rest on the grounds. Afterwards, we’ll retrace our steps back to Edgewood and Cañada intersection. Bring a snack, water, and sun protection. The Crystal Springs trail is mostly flat but has the occasional short up and down hills and has rocky, dirt, and gravely sections so it is recommended to wear shoes with good tread and protection from mud. Hiking poles also come in handy for a couple of the short downhills.
Rain cancels. No pets allowed. Participants must be 18 years or older.

Palo Alto Baylands to Ravenswood and back (Front Country)
Rating: 2A1 (7.2 miles, 50 feet)Join us for a nice long flat walk from the Palo Alto Baylands Lucy Evans Nature center to the trail end at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve and back. We’ll hike to Cooley Landing at Ravenswood and take a break there. In Ravenswood we’ll hike on the Bay Trail to an observation deck at the end of the trail where we will eat lunch. Then we will retrace our steps back to the Palo Alto Baylands where we will walk out to the observation deck at Lucy Evans for a lovely view. Meet at the Aparcamiento Discapacitados parking lot (Map). If the lot is full, continue on to the parking for the boat launch or check if there is parking at the duck pond. Bring a lunch, sun protection (there is little shade on the hike), and warm layers if it is chilly.
