LoMAZ on Tour to Transylvania! (a Dracula Daily event)
Details
LoMAZ is going on tour at the beginning of November 2026. Come and join us for a weekend break to Transylvania, Romania!
This event is part of our Dracula Daily series of events to connect to the book Dracula running from May to November 2026. See https://www.meetup.com/london-museums-a-z-lomaz/events/312216865/
You can sign up for Dracula Daily here: https://draculadaily.substack.com/about
Dr. Van Helsing’s Memorandum, 5th November:
There was one great tomb more lordly than all the rest; huge it was, and nobly proportioned. On it was but one word
DRACULA. This then was the Un-Dead home of the King-Vampire.
This trip to Cluj is NOT a planned excursion and guided tour. People will book their own flights and their own accommodation.
The official LoMAZ days will be:
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th November.
Your hosts will be there for an extended weekend. On Saturday we will explore Cluj and on the Sunday we will be doing a Dracula's Castle and Birthplace Daytour.
You must book your tour with operator direct. See the Daytour section.
You can extend your time either side of this weekend if you would like to and you are free to arrive and leave whenever you want to.
Suggestions will be made in the event WhatsApp group of what to see and people can go and do what they would like to. The WhatsApp group can also be used to co-ordinate and figure out best travel plans.
We will not all be doing the same thing and people may want to go and do something on their own too.
GETTING THERE:
Planes: There is more than one airline to get to Cluj-Napoca. A good place to start is Skyscanner.
Hosts have booked to travel on these outward flights:
London Stansted (STN) to to Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) with Ryanair on 06/11/2026, departing at 05:55 and arriving at 10:45.
London Luton (LTN) to Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) with Wizzair on 06/11/2026, departing at 08:10 and arriving at 13:05.
The main airport is Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport (IATA code: CLJ). It is about 5.6 miles (9 km) east of the city centre.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are various hotels, hostels and airbnbs to stay in while you are in Cluj, so you will need to book your own accommodation in or around the city. Two of the hosts are staying in the old town.
Some accommodation sites are booking.com and airbnb.
You can discuss accommodation locations in the WhatsApp group and comments below.
SUNDAY DAYTOUR:
You must book your tour yourself. LoMAZ have no connections to the company running the tour and your agreement will be with the tour operator. The cost is about £120.50 per person and the minivan leaves at 7:30am on Sunday 8th November. Please book here:
https://georgeturism.ro/tours/tours/draculas-castle-and-birthplace-daytour/
There are 14 seats on the minivan. We have not booked the whole bus and so other people can also book tickets. So you do need to book early.
If this tour sells out then you can book with another operator, but we will not be in the same vehicle: https://www.getyourguide.com/en-gb/cluj-napoca-l2393/the-dracula-tour-t127730/
Please therefore book well in advance!
WHATSAPP GROUP FOR PRE-TRIP CHAT:
You will see the link to the WhatsApp group when you sign up in the comments section below. Please note that joining this WhatsApp group will make your phone number visible to other members. We also have a main LoMAZ WhatsApp group that you are welcome to join after your first event.
PLEASE READ:
LoMAZ events are run by volunteers. This event has an attendee limit as we prefer a smaller, friendlier group. If you RSVP but can no longer attend, please change your RSVP as soon as possible, otherwise you will be marked as a 'no show'.
We remove members from the group who:
repeatedly sign up for events then 'no show'.
repeatedly change their RSVP to 'No'.
are on the event waitlist or have not RSVPd but turn up anyway.
Please see the About Us section for more information about the group and how it works.
Thank you for your interest in the group & being part of LoMAZ.
