• AWS Amplify Workshop

    Needs a location

Are you a Backend, Frontend, or a Full Stack developer in a start-up company? Aspire to work at a start-up or starting your own soon? Or maybe you just enjoy building stuff and learning about new technologies?

Join us on the 12th of October for an evening of building, pizza and drinks! You will learn how to get started with a full stack app quickly on AWS using AWS Amplify.

    What's the format?

We're joining forces with Amazon Web Services' Startup team and hosting a hands-on workshop so you get to have some fun with AWS services while learning how to build your own e-commerce shop!

Speakers and facilitators include Software Craftspeople from Codurance and Solution Architects and Developers Advocates from AWS.

We will provide the AWS Accounts and Wi-Fi, you just need your laptop and some previous development experience to fully enjoy this workshop.

The meetup will be hosted in Amazon's London office, 1, Principal Place, Worship St, London EC2A 2FA.

In order for us to be able to sort this out, the latest date to confirm your attendance is the 10th, so sign up, get your laptops ready and see you there!

  • LSCC and Rightmove Coding Dojo: Let's do some TDD

    Needs a location

We're banding together with the team at Rightmove for an evening of coding, food and drinks! Come and code along, share ideas, discuss best practices and learn from LSCC and Rightmove coders.

    What’s the format?

After a short intro, we’ll get into groups/pairs or work solo, whatever people feel most comfortable with, and start building.

The concept is to code an existing word-based game known most commonly as “Consequences”.

You choose how you want to work and what language you want to code in. This session is about collaborating with others, becoming a better developer and building your network, in a fun, relaxed environment.

Food and drinks will be provided, with vegetarian and vegan options available. All you need to do is bring a machine if you’d like to code along.

  • Global Day of Coderetreat at London Software Craftsmanship Community

The LSCC is taking part in Coderetreat - the largest free community workshop worldwide. Join us to explore new techniques and write better code using TDD, pairing and other software technical practices.

    And most importantly... have fun!

    About Coderetreat

Coderetreats are free day-long, intensive practice events, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of "getting things done", the coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of learning and nurturing software development skills.

    What's the format?

The day will consist of 5-6 sessions, with breaks and lunch provided in between. Each session’s learning builds upon previous sessions. Early sessions will give the chance for any new attendees to become comfortable with the problem domain, pairing habits, and basic Test-Driven Development cycle. Later session constraints will challenge you in your pair to stretch your skills and understanding of abstractions, modular design, and test-driven development.

We will work in pairs the entire day, and as a group we'll reform regularly to discuss the principles of software design.

    Coding Sessions

Each session will begin by implementing Conway’s Game of Life for 45 minutes.
    After each iteration:
    Each pair deletes their code.
The group holds a short retrospective (~15 minutes)
A short bio-break (stretching, restrooms, snack, etc)
Pairs switch partners. If possible, everyone should pair with a different partner for every iteration.
