Day trip by coach - along the east Kent Coast! (NOW FULL)

Details

THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.

Come along on Saturday 31st May for a coach trip along the east Kent coast.

About the day
The name Kent is of Celtic origin and dates back to the 4th century BC and is one of the earliest names recorded in Britain. It translates as 'coastal district,' 'corner-land' or 'land on the edge'.

The county of Kent has stunning countryside and a pretty coastline. It has been known as the 'Garden of England' for over 400 years due to its long-standing reputation for agricultural excellence, particularly fruit orchards, hop gardens, and wine production.

We are travelling by coach to visit three places along the east Kent coast.

Broadstairs
Broadstairs is a very pretty seaside town. It has seven sandy beaches and many photogenic chalk stacks, like Botany Bay. The town is very Victorian and with a connection to Charles Dickens, who used to holiday here. It is also a great place for foodies, with many seaside cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Sandwich
The town of Sandwich derives from the Old English "Sandwic," meaning "sand village". The food item known as a "sandwich" was not named after the town, but rather after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, who popularized it in the 18th century. The town used to sit on the coast, but due to coastal deposition, it now sits on the banks of the River Stour, 2 miles inland. The town has many winding streets of Medieval & Victorian architecture.

St. Margaret's at Cliffe
St. Margaret's at Cliffe is a three-part village situated on the cliffs and around a natural secluded cove. The centre of the village is about ¾ mile from the sea, up the cliffs. On the coast, it gives great views of the surrounding cliffs and South Foreland Lighthouse. The village has a very unusual and rich history for such a small place, including a James Bond connection.
