Day trip by train - visit Fort Amherst in Kent!

Come along on Saturday 30th August to visit Fort Amherst on the River Medway in Kent!

About Fort Amherst
Fort Amherst was built in 1756 at Chatham on the River Medway to defend Chatham Dockyard and access to the River Medway from a French invasion.

The building of the fort was largely the result of the Raid on the Medway 89 years before, when the Dutch fleet inflicted heavy damages on the dockyard. The fort was reinforced during the Napoleonic wars (1799-1815) and were used in both WW1 and WW2.

Since 1959, the site has been a ancient monument and opened to the public in the 1970's.

When we arrive, we will be having a tour of the tunnels which run under the fort. The tour lasts about 1h 30mins.

Cost
Entry is free, but if you wish to do the tunnels tour, its £9 per person (payable on the day by cash, PayPal or Bank Transfer).

Aprox Itinerary
9:45am - meet at the station and get GroupSave train tickets (in groups of 3) to Chatham
10:10am - catch train
10:56am - arrive at Chatham and walk to the fort (about half a mile)
11:15am - arrive
11:30am - tour of the tunnels (lasts about 1h 30mins)
1:00pm - stop for lunch, there is a cafe on site
2:00pm - self guiding around the site
3:30pm - meet back at the cafe and walk back to the station

Trains going back: 4:02pm, 4:19pm, 4:35pm and the same times past each hour - it takes 49mins).

Train Tickets
We will be getting GroupSave tickets (3 for 2) which work out at £15.60 each (we will be purchasing these in groups of three on the day as people arrive).

Please note, we will only wait at the station for 10 minutes after the advertised meeting time so please be early or on time.
