About the Institute and museum
The institute and museum were created immediately after the end of WW2 to preserve the memory of the Polish Underground State in occupied Poland and future records from Poland's occupation by the Soviet Union.
The institute has conserved historical records, including witness records from the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, documents, military medals, works of art, a library and many personal effects which had once belonged to Polish statesmen, diplomats, academics, military leaders and ordinary men and women. The institute's also has an unrivalled film and photographic archive of over 5,000 photographs was digitised during 2005–6.
Today, the institute continues its mission to collect, preserve and promote the history and cultural legacy of Poland in the United Kingdom and beyond.
