Today we'll be looking at the work of the Italian artist Caravaggio. Caravaggio adopted chiaroscuro lighting in his paintings in the 16th century. Chiaroscuro is an Italian term referencing the contrast of light (chiar) and dark (oscuro) to model three-dimensional forms.

It’s a style that has quite dramatic results and one that photographers can use to create dramatic images.
