First get together (part b): Long Island Recent Retirees
Details
If you review the group, you will see an event scheduled for Tuesday, 10/20 at 4:00. But I did get a couple of requests for 10/22 as the Tuesday did not work for them. Note, I would be looking for at least 6-10 acceptances for this event to maintain it on the calendar.
Here is a copy and paste of the agenda from the Tuesday meeting:
Good day, all!
I am so excited about the interest in the group and about our first get-together. After visiting MOTW Coffee & Pastries in Farmingdale, I believe it will be a great place for our first meetup. Lynn and I will be arriving around 3:30 to try to reserve enough tables so we can all sit together in the same area.
While I love the opportunity to simply socialize and meet new people, I also want to make sure you find our time together valuable. With that in mind, I thought it would be helpful to have a little bit of structure so everyone knows what to expect.
Here’s my plan:
4:00–4:15 — Meet & Greet
An opportunity to meet people, get settled, and grab some coffee or pastries.
4:15 — Introductions
We’ll go “around the room” and introduce ourselves. To put a little “meat on the bone,” I’ll suggest a few things you might share. Please feel free to share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with—you can skip any (or all) of these!
- Your name, obviously! 😄
- How long ago you retired
- What you enjoy most about retirement—and perhaps what you miss most from your pre-retirement days
- Something about your family
- Something about a recent vacation or an upcoming trip
- What you’re hoping to get from this group and/or ideas for future events
Once we’ve gotten to know a little more about each other, we’ll have plenty of time to relax and socialize.
And toward the end, I have a fun suggestion-box idea that I think will give us some great ideas for future activities and opportunities to get together.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and getting this group started!
