Burbank Wildwood Canyon to 1st Radio Tower
Details
Hi, All!
Let's do a challenging, out and back hike in Burbank's Wildwood Canyon. Friday, Sept 15.
The trail winds up a steep, 1+ hour ascent with switchbacks and minimal flat stretches. Very little shade. You’re rewarded along the way with panoramic views from the ocean to the San Gabriel Mountains. It's a fantastic cardio workout.
According to AllTrails, it is a 2.3 mile out-n-back path from the parking lot start to the leftmost radio tower on the Burbank hills ridgeline and back to the beginning point. Elevation gain is 1800'. Single-track trails all the way to the top.

At the top, there is an option to descend via a wide, sand/gravel fire road and a paved path back to the starting point. This way of descent adds 3-ish miles and an hour to the return route. We will plan on coming back as a group the same way we ascended, but this alternate route is an option for anyone who prefers it.
Shoes with good grip are a MUST! Bring plenty of water.
Meeting Spot: Wildwood Canyon Trail parking lot. (1701 Wildwood Rd; Burbank, CA. There is a large sign in the (free) parking lot for Wildwood Canyon.) 9:00AM meetup; take off by 9:05AM.
- Total Distance : 2.5 Miles
- Hike Time: 2 Hours
- Difficulty: Moderate-Hard
- Total Ascent: roughly 1,920 Feet
Restrooms are available by the trailhead.
Hope to see you there!
