Sunday Writing Session
Sun, Sep 27, 8:00 AMA weekly writing session brought to you by Paris Lit Up. Every Sunday morning, we get together at Neuvième Sauvage for two hours of writing. There are no exercises, workshops or assigned prompts. The idea is simply to have a regular time and place to sit down, work on whatever you’re writing, and do it in the company of other writers. Bring whatever you’re working on—fiction, poetry, nonfiction, a screenplay, an essay, or anything else—and whatever you like to write with. Laptops, tablets, notebooks and pens are all welcome. From 10:00 to 12:00, we write. There’s no pressure to share your work or talk about what you’re writing during the session. You can simply grab a coffee, find a seat and get some words down. Neuvième Sauvage also has good coffee and some nice breakfast options if you’d like something while you write. At 12:00, once the two hours of writing are over, those who want to stick around are invited to share what they’ve been working on. You can read something aloud, talk a little about what you’ve been writing, or just listen. Other participants are welcome to offer some light feedback, and it’s also a chance to chat and socialise after the morning’s writing. The Sunday Writing Sessions are free to attend. Right Bank Writers’ Group — French-to-English Translation Workshop

On the last Saturday of every month, the Right Bank Writers’ Group turns its attention to the art — and occasional impossibility — of translating French into English. Together, we’ll work on a French-language text and explore the different ways it might live in English. We’ll compare choices, discuss tone, rhythm, meaning and style, and tackle those words and expressions that never seem to have one perfect translation. This is a collaborative workshop: there isn’t necessarily one “correct” answer, and the discussion is as important as the finished translation. You do not need to be a professional translator to join us. Writers, translators, language lovers and anyone curious about the relationship between French and English are welcome. Bring something to write with. Any texts or materials needed for the session will be provided. La Chope des Compagnons 86 Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville, Paris Saturdays, 16:00–18:00 (4pm–6pm) The workshop costs 5€, which helps Paris Lit Up cover the cost of renting the space. On the first Saturday of every month, the Right Bank Writers’ Group gets together to write, experiment and see where a prompt might take us. During the workshop, we’ll work through a variety of creative writing exercises exploring things like character, dialogue, description, voice, structure and storytelling. Some exercises might last just a few minutes, while others give you more time to develop an idea. There’s no pressure to produce something polished — the aim is to write, experiment and try things out. There will also be opportunities to share what you’ve written with the group if you’d like to. Whether you write fiction, poetry, nonfiction or something that doesn’t quite fit into a category, you’re welcome. No preparation or existing work is required. Just bring a notebook and a pen. No laptops or tablets. The workshop costs 5€, which helps Paris Lit Up cover the cost of renting the space. Cash and card accepted.
