WRITE CLUB: one hour of silent writing (or reading) in the company of others

The first rule of WRITE CLUB is that you do not talk ***during*** WRITE CLUB. This very simple meetup is based on the premise that public and peer accountability enables more productive writing than sitting at home and getting distracted by the fridge. We will write/read for an hour in silence. Fiction Feedback Workshop

In our regular feedback workshops, we have three writers sharing a sample of their writing for immediate feedback, advice and encouragement. Critique is led and moderated by your host. You learn more by listening to the writing of others and the feedback their piece receives on the night than you can imagine. We've been running these sessions since 2010 and there's a reason they fill up so fast! For reading samples, pieces must be **3,500 words or less** as you'll have about 45mins for reading and discussion on your excerpt from around the table. Most people bring an excerpt from their novel or a short story of all genres and styles. You must have booked your place before making a request to read. If you'd like to read, book your seat first and post a comment below with ***'I'd like to read'*** and I will confirm. It's a first request, first reading system so do check if there have been three requests made already. If this one has no reading spots left, you might like to book early for the next upcoming session. Reading spots go FAST but there are always more to come. That said, we don't allow the same people usually to share work in consecutive sessions. If you are reading, **please bring enough printed copies (at least 10)** of your pages so members can make additional feedback/editing notes for you during the reading. All copies will be returned to you after the feedback has concluded. New members are always welcome in these groups. Most people come along to a few sessions before offering feedback, commenting or requesting to read but it's up to you. If you want to read right away, great, but if you want to come along and see how we roll first, that makes sense too. Again, you'll be surprised by how much you can learn from others by listening to the pieces and their feedback. Most sessions have 50/50 split on new members vs regulars. After the workshop, most of us head to the bar for a social drink or two and extended conversation about the joys and woes of writing. **TICKETS:** £15.00 for venue arrangements, organising and hosting. The London Sci-Fi & Fantasy Authors are excited to present the next event in our Publishing Q&A series! Join us on Wednesday, June 3rd at 6:30PM at Craft Beer Co. Brixton for our Traditional Publishing Panel Q&A. For this special session, we’ll be joined by three publishing professionals from across the traditional publishing journey, from agent to editor to marketing. Whether you’re preparing to query, hoping to better understand the industry, or simply curious about how books make their way from manuscript to shelf, this is your opportunity to ask questions directly to the people involved in the process. We’ll be discussing everything from submissions and acquisitions to editorial relationships, marketing, positioning, and what publishers are looking for in today’s speculative fiction landscape. Writers at all stages are welcome — just bring your questions! The publishing professionals joining our panel will be: **Aje Roberts - Senior Commissioning Editor at Tor Books** Aje joined Tor in 2025, where she's building a bespoke list across fantasy romance, romantasy, SFF and romance. Authors she has worked with include Nikki St Crowe, Lucy Lehane and Jade Church. As an editor, she is building a list that represents the society that we live in and that pushes boundaries and elevates intersectionally diverse authors. Tor Books is one of the most renowned publishers of science fiction and fantasy in the world. An imprint of Macmillan, Tor has been home to some of the most influential voices in speculative fiction, including authors like Brandon Sanderson, V. E. Schwab, Tamsyn Muir, and Robert Jordan. **Hennah Sandhu - Marketing Manager at Orion Publishing Group** Hennah is a Marketing Manager at The Orion Publishing Group (part of Hachette UK), recognised for her work in publishing marketing and as a former co-chair of Hachette's THRIVE network for Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage employees. She was named a Bookseller Rising Star in 2025 and is active in championing diversity in literature. **Gyamfia Osei - Literary Agent at Andrew Nurnberg & Associates** Gyamfia joined ANA in 2023 as a Literary Agent in the UK department. A Bookseller Rising Star, she was previously at The Good Literary Agency, where she began building a list of award-winning and bestselling authors writing from middle grade and YA up to adult fiction. Her recent highlights include auctions for Kai Spellmeier’s YA romance Boy Friends and Eleanor Medhurst’s cultural history Queer in Colour, ‘significant’ six-figure deals for Busayo Matuluko’s bestselling YA thriller ‘Til Death and C.M. Basma’s debut epic fantasy The Fallen Sun, and the shortlisting of Ebinehita Iyere’s Girlhood, Unfiltered at the British Book Awards. At ANA, Gyamfia is focusing on expanding the agency’s list of children’s authors, particularly in genre fiction and Crossover, while also representing a select list of adult commercial fiction and narrative non-fiction. Folklore Inspired Creative Session

**Do you ever feel the pull to be creative, but don’t know how to start, or even what you want to make?** **Do you ever get a flash of inspiration, but never have the time or energy to follow it through?** **Do you worry that you have to become technically skilled before you have the 'right' to make art?** **If you answered yes to any of the above, then this event is for you!** As children, we create all the time. We sing, draw and write as part of our normal lessons. We make sandcastles, secret dens, friendship bracelets, invent ball games and make up elaborate storylines for dolls and action figures. We don’t fear failure because the point isn’t to succeed, but to express ourselves and have fun. In fact there’s a whole branch of folklore called childlore! But as adults, it can become hard to connect with that creative instinct, whether that’s due to time, energy, cost or self-doubt. So for this event, we’ll be taking time and space to connect with what inspires us and flex our creativity just for the fun of it. Skill and experience levels don’t matter (although those who are skilled or experienced are welcome!)-what matters is remembering what creative inspiration feels like to you personally, and pursuing it to create something authentic to you. To do this, we’ll be emulating artists across millennia in using folklore as inspiration. A collection of folklore genres will be supplied, each containing a collection of prompts, and you will be picking a piece of folklore that speaks to you on that day and creating a piece of art based on your own interpretation of your prompt. This art can be anything, from poetry to sketching, sewing to architecture, make up, set design, tattoo art, songwriting, fashion, game design or event planning-whatever your prompt inspires you to create! You can choose to do several pieces or spend the whole session on one. Paper and pencils will be provided, but please feel free to bring other materials so long as they are not disruptive to the people or environment around us (eg no liquid paints, musical instruments, etc). Please note: this is not a technical lesson! No specific creative skills will be taught, as the aim is connecting with your own personal creative process. But you are welcome to take your pieces home with you to hone your skills. If there are specific areas of folklore that you would like to see prompts for we would love to include them! Write-in at the Mitre: work on your own material in convivial company

**We will be at The Mitre pub in central Greenwich.** This meetup is free and casual. We just sit around for a few hours and write together. Bring a laptop, or use a pen and paper or clay tablet and stylus if that's what works for you. The structure of the session is roughly: 2pm: chat 2:20–3:25: writing time 3:25: chat/coffee break 3:40–4:45 writing time 4:45: chat But our Saturdays are very casual, so feel free to drop in and out. **This is usually in the meeting room at the Mitre. If you arrive a bit later, you may need to ask the bar staff to show you through to the room.**
