Literary Devices: Writers and Hackers for Noisebridge!

Literary Devices: Writers and Hackers for Noisebridge!

Sat, Jun 13, 2:00 AM
From Noisebridge Hackerspace
4.7

San Francisco Writers Workshop collaborates with our hacker friends to raise funds for everyone's favorite local makerspace: Noisebridge! Several of our best authors will produce stories/poems/word-based constructs. Each will share their literary product with a hacker, who will respond with a device/app/gadget/doohickey inspired by the writing. On the night of the event, audience members will vote for the device that best complements the assigned writer's piece. The winning hacker will receive a prize of dubious value! Expect delicious snackies, and other fun additions: in the past we've included a fun raffle!

Sit Down and Write

Sit Down and Write

Sun, May 17, 6:00 PM
From Oakland Creative Writers
4.8

Writers write. And if you haven't written in a room full of writers writing, you haven't lived! It's a nice feeling, at the least. 11:00 a.m. Arrive, find a spot, support our patron by purchasing a beverage and/or snack and tipping well. Then socialize until writing-time begins! A few minutes before, we'll go around the circle introducing ourselves, our writing passions, and our goal for the day. 11:15 a.m. The organizer will start the clock, and for the next 1 hour conversation shall be discontinued as everyone works on whatever writing or reading (or what-have-you) strikes his or her fancy. The key here is a nice, courteous quiet. Headphones are recommended. 12:15 p.m. Writing-time ends. You're welcome to continue writing, resume socializing, hail a cab, do whatever you want, because you're an adult.

From 11am to 1pm, we gather in a calm, welcoming space for one hour of uninterrupted writing whether you’re working on an exciting project or simply exploring self expression in your own way. Bring your notebook, your thoughts, or just your presence. This is open to anyone creative seeking a moment of intention, connection, and quiet inspiration.

Writers’ Support & Check-In — NO WRITING During Meetup

Writers’ Support & Check-In — NO WRITING During Meetup

Sun, May 17, 7:00 PM
From Shut Up & Write!® SF Bay Area
4.8

**\*\*Note: THIS MEETUP IS NOT A WRITING SESSION. There will be no writing during this meetup.\*\*** **Location:** **A table outside Andytown Cafe (in the lobby area) by Salesforce Transit Park, 12 p.m.** Food and drinks are sold inside Andytown Cafe. There are restrooms in Andytown and within a minute's walk in the transit park area. Go inside to the lobby area next to Andytown and look for a table with the "Writers' Support & Check-In Group" sign. Check comments for updates. This hour-long writers' check-in and support group is just before the writing meetup, which I plan to attend at 1 p.m. You're welcome to join the Shut Up & Write meetup right after to actually write. Join us for a relaxed gathering of writers to connect, share progress, discuss challenges, and support each other. We’ll focus on community, encouragement, and exploring what kind of group we want to build together. While I’m especially interested in creative nonfiction, writers of all genres are welcome as we figure out what works best for the group. We’ll have time to introduce ourselves, check in, and chat about what we want from this group.
