Hi there! Welcome to the Southside Music Collective - hosted at Cricle Music, Botany. This is a jam that is open to beginner and intermediate players and we welcome all instruments, musical genre's and skill levels. All you need is a keenness to learn and an open mind for all things musical. Our goal is to help get you out of the bedroom and onto the stage. We can help you achieve this goal by working as a team. You will be being guided by professional musicians with years of live music experience, touring and teaching. This is also this is a great environment to meet fellow musicians and talk all things music. Moving on from what the more casual format of Sydney Jammers, we want to focus a smaller song list but with an end goal of having a tighter sounding unit. From there we would be booking a showcase style gigs at least twice a year. With regards to equipment, we provide a drum kit, P.A system, mics and a bass amp. We do have a few small guitar amps available, however we recommend you bring your own practice amp. August Meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club

Come along to our **August meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club**. Wattle Day is 1 August, we will explore this theme. This is a chance to connect, spend some time in nature and journal together. I will offer some guidance to start. After we can share journal pages and ideas. **What to bring:** Bring along sketchbooks/paper and your favourite drawing materials (pens, pencils, watercolour, acrylic, anything you have). I will have extra materials on the day if you want to explore other mediums. \*\*Where:\*\* Botanic Gardens, Sydney. **Cost:** Suggested donation is $10 annual fee, $5 casual fee. ASK IF ANY QUESTIONS** Join us for an fun afternoon of outdoor fitness with volleyball, inclusive of ALL LEVELS, including First timers, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced players. This event is perfect for volleyball enthusiasts who want to improve their volleyball skills while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Whether you are an experienced player or just starting out, this training session is designed to help you improve your technique, stamina, and overall fitness. During the session, we will warm up with training drills and exercises. You'll have the opportunity to enhance your volleyball skills and work on your agility and speed before playing games, in both a fun social, mixed-level setting and a more competitive setting with fellow volleyball lovers. **What to expect:** **1st hour:** Setup courts, warm up and play. **2nd hour:** Mixed play, where each team has a mixture of playing levels (beginners to advanced). **3rd hour:** We will split players onto different courts, where one court will be for advanced play, and another for intermediate and beginners. Don't miss this chance to challenge yourself, meet new friends, and enjoy the thrill of playing volleyball in a stunning outdoor setting. Please make sure to bring your own water bottle and anything else you think you may need. **IMPORTANT DETAILS** 1. **Please RSVP and respect the "Going" and "Waitlist"** If you are not on the "Going" list, you may not be allowed to play. 2. **All skill levels are welcome.** 3. During mixed play (when we have advanced and beginners on the same court) **hard serving and spiking is not allowed!** 4. If you meetup name is not in English, this interferes with the organisation. I urge you to either a. write your name in English; b. add an English version to it; or c. when you RSVP, type your name in English. If you don't do this, you will be moved to the "Not Going" list. 5. Please know that there is no permanent net/court set up at the park. We set it up at the start of each event, so don't expect to see the court when you arrive. Just be at the meeting spot ready to help set-up. 6. If you are not **willing to help** set up and/or pack up the net, this group is not for you. **Suggested Donation to helps us with expenses:** * **Casual\* visitor** **(1st timer or return player):** $2 (CASH ONLY) * **Membership\* (optional):** $20 for 6 months (Cash or Bank) \*Student rate at 50% of above. We only want team players, not selfish people. **Waitlists:** If your name is on the Waitlist, you do **NOT** have a spot. **A spot** **may become available to you up until midday** (even later) on the day of the event. Waitlists/allocated spots are now **discretionary** and not in order of response. Medium: Stairs, rocks, coastal beaches/sand, ups, downs, get out points limited, up to 17kms
Medium-Hard: uneven surfaces, need to take extreme care and be hike fit. Few get out points. Tracks, uneven surfaces, steep inclinations and limited resources. 🌸👯‍♀️🌸 WALKING GUIDELINES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 🌸✍️🌸 Carry sufficient food and water (2 litres) for the expected conditions of the walk. Pls don’t separate from the group, unless you let someone know, preferably me. SSP .TUE ..CHERRY BLOSSOMS Auburn

Today we walk the Auburn Botanical Gardens in Spring. We have timed this to avoid the endless crowds and catch the tail end of the cherry blossoms. The Azaleas and many more varieties of plants and shrubs are also photo worthy. Enjoy the later start time. If you require a morning coffee, there are a few cafes in close proximity to Auburn station. For coffee snobs, Auburn does not have a coffee culture like the CBD, but passable. We will have a quick look through the bird aviary at Auburn Botanical Gardens, then walk around the corner to the Auburn Tennis Club for lunch at noon in their bistro. After lunch we walk back to the Auburn Botanical Gardens to take images of the plants and flowers Depending on what time we decide to leave the Gardens we could stop at Auburn shopping area before catching the train home as there are many eateries and the possibility a pub. Auburn is a melting pot of cultures, Turkish, Nepalese, Pakistani, Afghani, Middle Eastern and Asian, so tasty and usually low priced. How to get There: Public Transport Meet at Stand A at Auburn Train Station for the S3 Direct bus to the Gardens departing at 11.15am. If you miss the direct S3 in the morning then catch the next 909 from the station area Stand B and tell the driver that you are going to the Gardens and get off the bus at the roundabout where Chiswick Street crosses over Cumberland Street (the bus travels along Cumberland Street). There is a coffee shop at this roundabout that has a black awning. Keeping the coffee shop on your right side, walk down Chiswick Street for 5 minutes and cross over busy Chisholm Road and you will see the Gardens in front of you and the Tennis Club is to your left on Chisholm Road (same side as the Gardens). When we get off the bus at the Gardens, walk to the Auburn Botanical Gardens bird aviary. The last direct S3 bus from the Gardens to the train leaves at 14.30 or if you want to stay longer, walk to Cumberland Road (see above directions) and catch the 909 back to Auburn Station at a time that suits. Car: Free parking at the car park or nearby streets at the Auburn Tennis Club, 181 Chisholm Rd, Auburn NSW 2144.

August Books and Bevvies

Welcome to **Books & Bevvies** — a casual book swap and drinks social in the Sydney CBD. This is not a book club with homework. It’s a simple, low-key way to meet people, chat about what you’ve been reading, and walk out with something new. **HOW IT WORKS** Bring a book you’re happy to part with. Pop it on the swap table when you arrive. Mingle, chat, and swap recommendations. When the swap opens, take a book that catches your eye. Stay for a drink and a conversation after. **WHAT TO BRING** One book, any genre and any reading level. **GOOD TO KNOW** The venue relies on accurate numbers for staffing, so if you can’t make it, please change your RSVP to “not going”. Repeated no-shows may result in removal from the group. The venue is kindly not enforcing a minimum spend, but please support them by buying a drink, soft drink, or some lunch during the swap if you can. There is no mandatory entry fee, but voluntary contributions are **very much** appreciated. The group costs around **$65 a month to keep running**, so if you enjoy the swap and are in a position to chip in, even $5 or $10 makes a real difference. I’ll have a jar near the sign-in list on the day. Please feel free to contribute at any stage through the swap. **WHERE WE’LL BE** We’ll be in the Market Street Garden Bar, with a table full of books and bevvies.

Film Only B&W: The Rocks

Today we will try and capture some images around The Rocks in Sydney. There are a few backgrounds or street locations that lend themselves to a good image. The idea is to try and capture an image that conveys a story. It is a different style of photography where you visualise the image and wait for something to present itself within your selected background. I would suggest 400 ASA or ISO film speed; Ilford HP5 or Kodak TRI X film for best results. The meetup point is the seats in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art at 10 am. For lunch, I would suggest the Ship Inn in Circular Quay at 12 noon, as the second meetup point.F

SSP TUE. Toy Cameras: Enmore Road

Bring your toy camera, either digital or film, and if you don’t have one, you can borrow one from Stan or use your phone. If you use a phone, why don’t you use a toy-camera simulator? On the iPhone, [Hipstamatic](https://hipstamatic.app/app/classic) is highly recommended. Meet at Cafe Newtown, at the corner of King Street and Enmore Road, at 10:00 AM for coffee. It’s very easy to get to, by train (Newtown Station is across the road) or bus. The walk starts at 10:30 AM. Start by crossing Enmore Road and exploring Pride Square, a Newtown plaza landmark. From there, it’s a very easy, simple walk down Enmore Road. You’ll see a road packed with commercial storefronts all the way down to Stanmore Road. This sight inspired this event. Cross that road and suddenly it’s residential, down to Enmore Park. Enmore Park is a large park that you can explore before meeting at our lunch venue, [The Vic on the Park](merivale.com/venues/viconthepark), across the road. This is part of a series every 3 months.
