Grace Christmas Fair

FYI - this is not a kayaking event! Its time to get a jump on holiday shopping for original and unusual items. Every year we support my artist friend, Elana at the Grace Christmas Fair. The $2 dollar admission helps to feed the hungry. This fair is 2 days, Sat, Nov 7th from 11 am- 6 pm and Sun, Nov 8th from 10 am - 4 pm. The vendors items are crafted, hand made and all price points. There is also an auction room of collectibles and antiques. Looking for unusual items, this is your go-to. After viewing this fair we can take the subway uptown to the Bryant Park Winter Village, @ 41st St & 6th Ave, which is an open air European inspired outdoor market with ice skating. Stay as long as you want at each location and/or come at your own convenience. This fair is open Oct 28th - Jan 3, 2027, M-F 11:00 am - 8 pm, Sat/Sun 10:00 am-8 pm. Admission is free. We will be going on Sat at 12:30. Lets meet inside the fair where the vendor tables are. Entrance Broadway & 10th St.

MKC + Paddle against current: Intermediate volunteer trip

*This trip is open to those who have volunteered in 2026 during our **public kayaking days.*** Once the RSVP opens, you will be placed on a waitlist until the host reviews your volunteer status and to make sure you completed the qualifications below. *** **MKC Intermediate volunteer trip: 4 miles total PLUS an extra paddle north against current** Let's paddle across the Hudson to visit our friends at MKC! After we launch from Pier 84, let's work off whatever we ate by heading north against building ebb, then float home. **PREREQUISITES TO RSVP:** 1. volunteered **AT LEAST** 4 shifts in 2026 during our free kayaking days AND 2. Completed at least 2 trainings in 2026 with our boathouse AND 3. Completed an intermediate time trial AND 4. You completed a 4+ mile round trip in 2026 in which you showed control of your kayak/SUP/OC and found it easy to stay toward the front of the group **COME PREPARED:** * Temperature appropriate clothing - neoprene or drysuit + non cotton layers (you may be able to borrow a drysuit) * Something warm to put on when we land * Water * Food if you plan to picnic or cash/credit to buy food there. * Sunscreen * Hat * Change of dry clothes for when we return * Anything else you may need to spend 2+ hours paddling! **CRAFT:** * Sit on top - Nope! * Sea Kayak - Only if completed a wet exit and show control of your kayak * OC1/OC2 - Ke Aloha ***supporting*** paddlers with a Ke Aloha coach approval (have coach contact host) * SUP - Only if completed a 4+ mile trip with our boathouse * Surfski - Only if completed a 4+ mile trip with our boathouse **TIMELINE:** 7:00 AM Arrive at the boathouse **7:15 AM Safety briefing hard cutoff to arrive. HALLOWEEN Piano Meetup

Join us if you dare in Opera America's MacKay Studio play your terrifying toccatas, paranormal preludes, and nightmarish nocturnes on a real grand piano for a live supportive audience. All levels and genres are welcome. Costumes are optional. After two spooooky hours in the piano studio, we will gather socially at a local pub. This meetup costs $15, payable in cash on the day of the event.

Please join us in Opera America's Studio 711 to play a real baby grand in front of a live supportive audience. This 90-minute studio-time recital will be followed by a social gathering at a local pub. All genres and levels are welcome. The event costs $15 payable in cash on the day.

Wednesday night scrimmages

**PLEASE SIGN UP AT LEAST 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE!** We will need to cancel sessions that do not have at least 6 people signed up. (But also, try not to change your RSVP with less than 48 hours notice, as we will lose money or waste expensive pool time if we cancel late or have too few people show up.) We'll warm up with some drills, and then split up into teams for some games. Wednesday nights are shorter, and if you're a new paddler, this will be a tricky session for a proper introduction to kayak polo. But if you want to join and have some paddling experience, send a message to the host to see if this session will work for you. While first-timers can try out a session for free, after that you will either need to join the club (seasonal and annual membership rates) or pay the $25 single-session fee.

Jazz Piano Up Close (Recital Series)

Discover jazz piano in an intimate, personal setting. In this 60 min solo piano experience, pianist and composer [Wajdi Cherif](http://www.wcherif.com) brings together beloved jazz standards and original compositions, sharing the stories and musical ideas behind the pieces. The audience becomes part of the experience, with the opportunity to choose a tune from a curated list and ask questions about jazz, improvisation, and the music. A relaxed, intimate engaging concert for curious listeners and jazz lovers alike. RSVPing on Meetup alone does not reserve your seat. Because capacity is strictly capped at 15 guests, please reserve and purchase your ticket to RSVP. Attendees take home an Album Digital Download Card (one per attendee). Session fee is $25 if you are not a season/annual member.
