Machine Learning Cloud Platforms & Other Super Fun Stuff

Details

For this month's event we are excited to have guest speakers talking about doing Machine Learning on cloud platforms.

Talks:

Cloud AI Overview - Thu Ya Kyaw
Vertex AI is a fully managed ML platform on Google Cloud that simplifies the training and deployment of ML models and AI applications. Thu Ya, a Developer Advocate for Google Cloud, will cover an overview of Vertex AI, its features, and capabilities, as well as provide insights into which tool on Vertex AI is right for you.

Running end-to-end ML environments - Rodrigo Agundez
When setting up a Machine Learning practice in a medium to a big size company, there are 3 main ML working environments to built: exploration, experimentation and production. Rodrigo, Director of Data Science and ML at adidas, will outline the pitfalls and best practices he has derived from his experiences at several companies. He will share specific examples using the AWS SageMaker suite, although the technical concepts should be applicable to any technology stack.

MineCraft Meets Deep Learning - Martin Andrews

MineCraft is cool, but MineCraft + Deep Learning is cooler! Martin will dive into several different research efforts that use MineCraft as an Reinforcement Learning testbed, including the recent NeurIPS MineRL BASALT Competition.

ControlNet and what's new in Generative Image AI - Sam Witteveen

Stable Diffusion and Open Source Image Generation models keep going from strength to strength. Sam will give a short talk on ControlNet, what it is, how it works and how you can start making images with it easily and quickly.

Talks will start at 7:00pm and end at around 8:45pm, at which point people normally come up to the front for a bit of a chat with each other, and the speakers.

***

As always, we're actively looking for more speakers - both '30 minutes long-form', and lightning talks. For the lightning talks, we welcome folks to come and talk about something cool they've done with TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX and/or Deep Learning for 5-10mins (so, if you have slides, then #max=10). We believe that the key ingredient for the success of a Lightning Talk is simply the cool/interesting factor. It doesn't matter whether you're an expert or and enthusiastic beginner: Given the responses we have had, we're sure there are lots of people who would be interested to hear what you've been playing with.
