We will hike Hitchiti Trail Saturday, 4.6 miles following Falling Creek down to the Ocmulgee River. GPS sends you to various places in its attempt to find this parking lot. IMPORTANT NOTE: GO 1.2 MILES ON JARRELL PLANTATION ROAD AFTER TURNING OFF OF HWY 18. Small parking lot on right.. This is a circular trail down to the Ocmulgee River and back. Very nice, secluded trail hike. The Hitchiti Trail is part of the Ernst Brender Demonstration Forest. It is a woodland trail that traverses a variety of woodland areas, granite outcrops, and several stream and river views. 4 mile loop trail with white blazes. Bring your insect repellent to keep ticks away.
Polar Paddle on Lake Juliette at Dames Ferry . Let’s start this year off with a paddle , fellowship and food after the event ! Bring warm clothes and a spare just in case . We will meet on the boat ramp as usual for a safety talk at 1 pm sharp and be in the water by 1:30 . Life jackets are required while paddling for everyone’s safety . There is a 5 dollar park pass required or purchase an annual pass . I will be making chili and cornbread muffins and if you would like to bring something to share please do . Its has also been confirmed that the Ratliffs will both be taking the polar plunge off the dock while holding hands ! As an added bonus Lee will be demonstrating the penguin kayak re-entry method that he has mastered over the summer . ! Hope to see everyone there ! Happy New Year !
Hiking about 6 miles.The Arabia Mountain Trail Nature center has parking and portalet toilets.( hopefully open year-round) Don't forget sunscreen, hat, water, snacks.... Dogs ok on 6' leash. If you have to cancel, please try to do so the night before or ASAP cuz we look for everyone before we start the hike.
Meet at the FDR Park Visitor Center parking lot off of Highway 190. Hike ~7 miles on the Longleaf Loop trail. Please be ready to roll at start time. Bring sandwich, snacks, water, poles, (bug spray), sunscreen, hat, etc. Restrooms at the center; You need a state parking pass; Leashed dogs okay. Civilian Conservation Corps built the office Stone Building originally called the Roosevelt Inn in the mid 1930. inside behind the checkout desk is a picture on a wall of the inside of the building when it had a dining room on the main floor.
