We will hike Hitchiti Trail following Falling Creek down to the Ocmulgee River.

GPS sends you to various places in its attempt to find this parking lot. IMPORTANT NOTE: GO 1.2 MILES ON JARRELL PLANTATION ROAD AFTER TURNING OFF OF HWY 18. Small parking lot on right.

This is a circular trail down to the Ocmulgee River and back. Very nice, secluded trail hike. The Hitchiti Trail is part of the Ernst Brender Demonstration Forest. It is a woodland trail that traverses a variety of woodland areas, granite outcrops, and several stream and river views. Bring your insect repellent to keep ticks away, and bring plenty of water.

High Falls State Park calls this a Primitive Paddle In Only campsite.
😉 To those of us who do backpacking, I will call it 4 star primitive . ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
It has 2 built in charcoal grills , a very safe fire pit , a privy ( outhouse ) -what!!?, as well as a part-time PRIMITIVE chef . 😉
What it does NOT have is water or electricity .
If you daydream about backpacking , but not sure about carrying 35 lbs of gear on your back —this is the compromise . 😊

Participants : you will need a non- motorized paddling craft , canoe , kayak , row boat . No paddle boards for this event .

Logistics : We are departing the boat ramp and PADDLING all our gear approx 1/2 mile to the campsite.
Kayakers I suggest you divide your load btween 2 dry bags -one each bow & stern . If your kayak has dry storage -Use it ! As a precaution, bag it in 2 hefty sacks & stuff it in .
Know your kayaks MAX weight capacity . You + gear + drinking water =?

I will have a canoe available to ferry some “ awkward “ loads , a small camp chair , firewood , gallon jugs of water, etc .
If you don’t have a lightweight, backpacking tent but you can borrow even a 2man tent (then do it & I’ll ferry it over for you).

What will you Primitives be doing ?
After setting up camp we will take a paddle around the lake .
There will be a group meal for dinner ( prepared by the Primitive Chef). Most likely — chicken tostadas . Or you can let your jetboil prevail. 😂
After dinner we will paddle out & catch the sunset. 🌅

Of course , there will be Campfire shenanigans with the ingredients for smores & roasting forks provided . A good round of Outdoor Trivia & a chance to win a camping swag bag 🤩
Hopefully we’ll see the moon from the water and I will have white lights for all the water craft.
In the a.m. we will either paddle out & watch the sunrise or watch from the shore ( depending how well we survive the campfire shenanigans ). 😉

Hi Folks, Let's do our next mid-week hike at the Pig Trail on Tuesday 7/14/26 starting at 6:00PM.
We should be able to get in 3 miles before it starts to get dark. Don't forget your bug spray, water, and walking sticks if you use them. Afterwards we'll find a place to eat nearby in case anyone is hungry and wants to join us.

Come join us for a how to clinic combined with a gorgeous sunset paddle on Lake Juliet ! From 6 until 7 we will discuss and demonstrate how to secure your kayak to a trailer or roof top of a vehicle . The following time remaining will be spent on the water with another gorgeous sunset that are always amazing . Things you will need to bring are as follows; park pass, bug spray, sun screen , hat, sun glasses hydration and a snack . We plan to be off the water before dark . As always life jackets are required . Hope to see you there !
