Hike/Paddles are perfect for weekend warriors, outdoor enthusiasts that wish to immerse themselves in nature and those that prefer small group adventures .
We will start with a hike at Rock Hawk Effigy.
The Rock Hawk Effigy is an ancient stone mound that can be viewed from an observation tower.
There is an outdoor classroom with historical info and wildlife placards . We will spend about 15 mins at the observation tower and interpretive center . Then we’ll start our hike on the orange trail . Overflow parking on road. No fees at trailhead , but tiny parking lot.
Hike : approx 5miles
Pace : 2.5-2.7mph
Elevation : insignificant
Bring : bug spray ( they’re back!) hydration, snacks , hiking stick , sun screen.
After the hike , we will regroup & head just down the road to the Lawrence Shoals Boat Ramp . ( Approx : 11:30am , if you’re only paddling- look for bright red kayak ). Pay your $5 at the Ramp Shack ( debit/credit only).
Your State park passes will not work here .
Paddle : Approx 2 hours, ( including lunch on the water). We will depart from Lawrence Shoals Boat Ramp , paddle the shoreline, dipping into quiet coves , looking for wildlife & photo op’s. We are early enough in the season to avoid skiers.
Bring: water shoes, more snacks , hydration, **brown bag lunch **, sunscreen , pfd.
Experience Level: Advanced Beginners - Intermediate ( You can paddle consistently for 45 mins -1hour , with no break . You have previous paddle experience, have situational awareness & the ability to adjust to wind & wake ).
*Adults only on this paddle
*No inflatables or paddle boards, for this event .
*You must always wear your PFD when paddling with Macon Outdoors . No exceptions !
No kayak rentals at this location, we are too early in the season.
**Nice clean bathrooms @ both the hike & boat ramp **😊
Carpools encouraged.
Let’s paddle strong 💪 & get our hike on ! See you there 😊
