What we’re about
Madison isn't all young adults, some of us are over 50, but young at heart! If you live on or near the isthmus, are over 50, and are seeking new friendships, join us. We'll meet primarily between 10am - 5pm, with some events in early evenings. Are you retired? still working from home? caregiving for a spouse and need an outing? new to the area? looking for friends to meet up with to enjoy the farmers markets, trips to the library, music on the terrace, lectures, walks to galleries? recovering from an injury and need to get back into your groove? Join this group of locals in Madison WI. Meetings are held downtown more often, but we also plan activities on both East and West sides.
P.S. If we meet in a coffee shop or restaurant consider buying a drink or appetizer.

Italian Opera Lovers - Andrea Chénier at Marcus Cinema W Madison - Women Age 50+
Point Cinemas, 7825 Big Sky Drive, Madison, WI, USEnjoy a big fat Italian opera, verismo style, with friends in West Madison. Andrea Chénier is a long running opera, so it's best done with friends. The four acts, set in Paris during the French Revolution, are filled with tumult and raw emotion (plus fantastic costumes)! Your host Cheryl has reserved seat G12 for herself, and I'd love a seatmate. Buy your ticket in advance. Meet up at 12:45 at Marcus Point Cinemas at 7825 Big Sky Drive. This event on the 17th is an ENCORE showing as the live performance is on December 13th. If hungry afterwards, we can drive to eat dinner together afterwards (Cheesecake factory, Chick Fil-A, Rajni Indian, North South Seafood... choices abound). Those arriving by bus line A, E, or R can ride with me.

Breakfast on the Square - Evergleam Trees, Capitol Decorations, and State Street
Novo Apartments - Lobby Vestibule, 216 S Pinckney St, Madison, WI, USShare breakfast on the Square, enjoy the historical aluminum Evergleam trees at the WI History Space, see the festive displays in our Capitol, stroll 2 blocks of State Street, and wrap up with a cup of cocoa or cappuccino.
We meet between 9:15AM-9:30AM in the Novo apartment building lobby, which is entered across from the Embassy Suites hotel at 216 S Pinckney Street. Public parking is found directly under the Novo building, and is accessed from Doty St, on the right hand side, just before you reach the Pinckney St intersection. You must depart the garage to street level, walk around the corner, and enter the Novo lobby from Pinckney Street. (Only residents have direct access into the building). There is also another parking garage directly across from the Novo public parking, on the left hand side of Doty Street. Either will work. Or, ride bus A B C 38 E F or R to get within 1-2 blocks of the Novo apartments. Please wear shoes with good traction. Event will be rescheduled in event of icy conditions. There is some walking involved - please be able to walk 1.3 miles (which accounts for the museum, Square, and portion of State Street)
We will go to Gooseberry on the Square for a very cost effective breakfast. It is in the U.S. Bank building, and they make omelets all day! We will then visit the WI History Space (part of the WI Historical Society) to see why millions of Evergleam trees - made and sold in Manitowac - were all the rage in the 1960s. From there, we visit the Capitol building to view the large tree and holiday lights, and spot a few fossils in the marble walls and steps. Lastly, we walk a few blocks down State St for retail therapy, returning afterwards to the Novo building. Along the way, you may wish to grab gifts at Fromagination or the Washington Veterans Museum, which has many great model planes boats and military mugs for sale.

UW Lecture - How Failures Fuel Innovation - An Economics and Business Lecture
330 N Orchard St, Madison, Wi, USInterested in innovation and start-ups? Wonder how new ventures get funded and which ones succeed? Listen to Dr. Adhira Sunkara (an NSF award-winning female startup founder in the ag-tech sector) talk about her personal entrepreneurial experiences plus her state-level work in building public-private partnerships across Wisconsin for hundreds of startups and small businesses. She is joined by UW Professor Jon Eckhardt from the School of Business and former Legg Mason fixed income analyst. You may bring a friend, spouse or partner, as this is an evening event. Sign up for your free tickets. Afterwards, we can share a drink at the Library Cafe across the street, for those interested.
Gather at 6:45PM inside the 3rd floor ORCHARD VIEW lecture room. Cheryl will have a MEETUP sign visible so you can find her. Arrive on time, as it's challenging to hold seats in a lecture hall. This event is ideal for those interested in technical innovation, starting a small business in emerging technologies, and acquiring funding. If you have "retired" from these concerns yourself, come learn about what our children and our younger friends face as they work to bring their ideas to the marketplace. Ideal for women interested in business development, survival and success in this competitive fast-moving world.
YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR THIS FREE EVENT. PLEASE PRINT OUT OR STORE YOUR FREE E-TICKETS
