What we’re about
Madison isn't all young adults, some of us are over 50, but young at heart! If you live on or near the isthmus, are over 50, and are seeking new friendships, join us. We'll meet primarily between 10am - 5pm, with some events in early evenings. Are you retired? still working from home? caregiving for a spouse and need an outing? new to the area? looking for friends to meet up with to enjoy the farmers markets, trips to the library, music on the terrace, lectures, walks to galleries? recovering from an injury and need to get back into your groove? Join this group of locals in Madison WI. Meetings are held downtown more often, but we also plan activities on both East and West sides.
P.S. If we meet in a coffee shop or restaurant consider buying a drink or appetizer.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Gentle Movement Essentrics at Olbrich Gardens with Walk Beforehand - Women 50+Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Madison, WI
New to Essentrics? Perhaps you knew it as "Classical Stretch" on PBS for many years. It's continuous gentle movement intended to increase joint mobility and stamina. Your host (who uses a cane on longer walks) has found it easier than yoga, greatly easing knee and hip joint and ligament pain, and improving endurance. All abilities should enjoy this class.
There are 9 open seats left for a 5-week session each Wednesday starting on Wednesday April 30th, at 6PM with the last session on May 28th. YOU MUST REGISTER AND PAY TO ATTEND THE CLASS at 6PM. Meet some new Meetup friends before hand, at the free gardens at 5:15 for a friendly chat and commune with Spring flowers. The class costs $65 as a nonmember for 5 sessions. Want to just meet up for a garden walk? Let Cheryl know you are coming by texting her at 561-403-3935. In later classes, perhaps we'll walk after class too.
Olbrich (despite the posted deadline date of 4/23) is still registering persons, and has 9 seats left as of 4/27. Register here by clicking the REGISTER button midpage here: https://www.olbrich.org/calendar/mindful-movement-essentrics
The gardens map is here. The class (at 6PM) and garden meetup for those interested (at 5:15PM) are easily reach on the east side of Lake Monona. Parking is on site, and the facility may be reached by bus C or bus 38.
While the "canned photo" shows persons sitting on the floor, I have found that most Essentric classes keep you fully upright. Most classes will have a chair in your position to use for balance and as an aid in exercises. Please take these classes at your own risk! If you have questions about the class please contact the instructor at edufford@cityofmadison.com Here is an example of an Essentrics Class here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOagT9QluUE&t=16s&ab_channel=ClassicalStretchbyEssentrics
