Guest Speaker
Our speakers this month will be members of Oakland based Ace Monster Toys (http://acemonstertoys.org/). This hacker space focuses on providing tools and knowledge for East-Bay hackers, makers, builders, and doers. The space has a full woodworking shop, electronics stations, welding equipment, rapid prototyping machines, meeting space, classes and workshops. They will describe some of the projects their members have built in the space, including boats, book scanners, party lights, rfid door entry systems, and more.
Mini-workshop
MakerBot is back! This month we'll be learning how to create a 3-D .stl (Stereo Lithography) model by writing software in Processing (http://processing.org/). This project is a great way to learn Processing programming and get started with 3D printing. If you want you can come back to Tech Liminal and get your shape made right in front of your eyes or you can get it printed from a company like Shapways (http://www.shapeways.com/).
If you would like to participate in the workshop please bring a laptop with Processing installed and running. (OSX, Linux, or Windows) The workshop will be geared towards folks with no programming experience, though all skill levels are welcome. Advanced programmers can go directly to the .stl aspects of the workshop.
This fun-for-all-ages event starts at 7:00pm. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
If you are working on a project and want to show it off or get help bring it in. We want to see the cool stuff you are doing :)
Also, be sure to check out our resident MakerBot (http://store.makerbot.com/cupcake-cnc-ultimate.html) and the new Arduino UNO which is available for $30.
