We are traveling this month to various maker spaces in the Bay Area. This week we are going to Kijani Grows (http://www.kijanigrows.com) at American Steel (http://americansteelstudios.com/about/). Eric Maundu, who runs Kijani Grows, will talk about the a remote control system (http://www.kijanigrows.com/social-gardening/) for an aquaponics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaponics) garden kit he has created and about the process he has gone through to develop it. This is a great chance to learn about open source electronics, linux routers, laser cutters, OSH Park (https://oshpark.com) manufacturing, DIY sourcing in China, and everything in between. Then there will be a mini-project introducing Open WRT (https://openwrt.org) and how it is used to control the garden. This workshop is free but please bring a computer with a terminal program such as Cool Term (http://freeware.the-meiers.org) (Mac) or Tera Term (http://ttssh2.sourceforge.jp/index.html.en) (PC) installed on it.
And, we want to see the cool stuff you all are doing! So email us if you have something you want to show off and we will arrange a demo.
See you there!
A fun-for-all-ages event. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
See you soon!
