Hey everyone! It's June so you know what that means, RI Pride is back for another great festival! We haven't missed a year yet, and we certainly don't plan on skipping it this year.
Pride needs no introduction. Easily one of the best days to enjoy the downtown area, the festival is one you shouldn't miss. The bulk of the day's events are being held in District Park again this year, so expect both sides of Providence River's pedestrian bridge to be teeming with festival goers enjoying everything Pride has to offer. Like in past years, there will vendors of all sorts selling everything from food/drinks, art, and anything else you can likely imagine. There will also be plenty of corporate booths likely passing out goodies. Live performances will likely take the stage throughout the day that we can check out as we mill about. Later we'll try to find a spot for the parade route which begins at 8pm. After the parade downtown will be crazy, but we'll likely continue the night at whatever bar/block party we can get into. It's usually the most lively night of the Summer.
The city has been stricter with public drinking at festivals in recent years, so there's a good chance alcohol has to be consumed in a designated area(s) during the festival. We'll try to make a stop for a drink towards the middle of us checking things out if the group needs a break. In past years The George has had a free block party, if that's the case again this year that's where we'll likely head after the parade. We'll update the comments if anyone gets separated trying to get a better view of the parade.
We do recommend having some cash in the event we run into a cover charge. We'll do our best to avoid any places that charge to get in, but better to be safe.
The actual festival grounds are likely to be packed, so let's meet at Hot Club to first gather everyone. Eddie will try to remember to wear one of his gaudy tropical shirts to standout as Hot Club is likely to be busy as well. We'll hang here for half an hour to 45 minutes while we enjoy a drink to give people time to find parking etc. before we walk. If you need to come late, please comment ahead and we can figure something out. Eddie may leave his phone number. Though we suggest trying to make it to Hot Club as finding us will be difficult once we move.
We highly recommend ride share if it's feasible as parking is likely going to be difficult. If you need to drive, we recommend giving yourself much more time than normal.
Looking forward to celebrating another Pride with everyone! This is always a fun day with a larger group. Please reach out to the hosts if you have any questions. Happy Pride Month! :D
