What we’re about
This Meetup group is for people who are NOT social media professionals, and who are business professionals who would say Yes to any one or more of these questions:
• Do you want to learn more about social media and related topics?
• Do your competitors have a stronger social media presence than you do?
• Do you get frustrated when people tease you for not being “social media savvy?”
• Do you dread using social media?
• Do you like to help others use social media more effectively and productively?
The Simplify Your Social Media Meetup Group offers you a free monthly opportunity to learn more about social media in a fun, interactive setting with typically 15-25 participants at each gathering.
Our meetings start with brief introductions by attendees, followed by a presentation by group organizer Joyce Feustel or someone else in the social media or related field, and conclude with informal networking.
We meet on the 2nd Tuesday from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time. We meet virtually via Zoom. When you RSVP for any of our meetings, you will get access to the link to register for the Zoom meeting.
Please note that this is a group for business people, and we do not tolerate any inappropriate private messages sent to a member via Meetup or via the chat feature in Zoom.
If you receive such a message, please report it to Joyce immediately via Zoom and also the name of person sending it. We have banned people from the group when they have violated this rule.

See all- LinkedIn Your Way: How to Make LI Work for You - Presenter Alexandra O'ConnellLink visible for attendees
Our meetings are held via Zoom. Once you RSVP via Meetup to attend this meeting, you will see the link that takes you to the registration form for the Zoom meeting. When you complete that form, Zoom sends you the link to the Zoom meeting for this event.
Please arrive at the Zoom meeting about 5-10 minutes early to meet other attendees. Your doing that will help ensure that we start on time and end on time.
Each meeting starts with attendee introductions, and please keep them to about 20-30 seconds. Tell us your name, the nature of your business and your ideal clients.
After the participant introductions, our speaker presents for about 20-30 minutes, allowing time for questions. We make sure to end by about 2:25 p.m. to allow time for networking and announcements.
This month, writer, editor and writing coach Alexandra O'Connell will present: "LinkedIn Your Way: How to Make LI Work For You."
“Post regularly!” That’s what all the advice about social media seems to boil down to. And by “regularly” they seem to mean “every day.” This appears to be the case even for LinkedIn, the platform with the clearest set of parameters: professional engagement.
But is that really the only way, or the best way, to engage with social media? What do we get out of posting to LinkedIn regularly? Do we all need to follow some sort of formula or template to get anything out of the experience? What does “regularly” mean, and how can you benefit without losing all your waking hours to managing your feeds?
Join us for a case study presentation by Alexandra O’Connell, book editor and writing coach, on her own experiment in posting “regularly” to LinkedIn.
We’ll talk about:
- What “regularly” can mean
- Whether you want to post organically or use a tool to pre-schedule your posts
- Different kinds of posts (text, picture, video) and the kinds of engagement they get
- What you might do with links and hashtags
- Some strategies and considerations for tagging others
Most of all, we’ll talk about having fun with social media—professionally—and still retaining control of our lives.
