About us

Hello Everyone, and Welcome to The Art of Photography Montréal.

We are a friendly community for anyone interested in exploring thoughtful and creative photography in the Greater Montréal area. Photographers of all experience levels are welcome, whether using cell phones or more advanced gear.

We will be arranging photoshoots in a variety of visually inspiring public and cultural spaces around Montréal. Members are also encouraged to suggest exciting locations for future outings.

There are no membership costs, and all of our programming is free. Occasionally, we'll visit a location which requires an admission fee (such as a museum or botanical garden). We'll let you know the cost ahead of time, and anyone who joins that outing will cover their own admission.

The goals of our group include:

  • Exploring interesting places and taking photos together.
  • Sharing our work and learning from one another.
  • Inspiring and supporting each other in developing our artistic skills and creativity.
  • Connecting with people who share our interest in photography.
  • Discovering more of Montréal through a creative lens.
  • Enjoying photography in a friendly and creative environment.

We look forward to welcoming everyone, including our many French-speaking members. I personally will communicate mostly in English, as my French is still a work in progress.

Being part of a large international group (The Art of Photography International) will allow us to share presentations with you from our national /international award-winning member photographers, along with famous photographer videos, Photoshop/Lightroom sessions and much more.

World Trade Centre Montréal, 747 Rue du Square-Victoria, Montréal, QC H2Y 3Y9, Canada, Montréal, QC, CA

For our Montréal group’s second outing, please join us for a relaxed couple of hours of creative photography at the World Trade Centre Montréal (Centre de Commerce mondial). There is a direct underground connection from the Square-Victoria–OACI metro station.

We’ll be shooting indoors, out of the late-November cold, in a setting sometimes described as a city within a city. It offers natural light and plenty of striking visual elements to work with.

We will meet beside the Amphitrite Statue and Fountain, next to the Reflecting Pool, located in the centre of the main atrium street (Ruelle des Fortifications). There will be a small TAOP Montréal sign to make it easy to find us.

After a brief meet and greet, we’ll move independently around the Centre taking photos alone or in small groups and exchanging ideas as we feel so inclined.

Some of the elements the Centre offers:

  • The massive glass skylight and steel atrium with its compelling geometry
  • Streaming light and strongly contrasting shadows and reflections
  • The contrast between the modern glass atrium and the preserved façades of Victorian-era buildings
  • The 18th-century Amphitrite statue and its stone fountain
  • The black granite Reflecting Pool with its mirror-like surface
  • Multi-level viewpoints with access via dramatic staircases and escalators
  • The sweepingly curved subterranean corridor leading to the Square-Victoria-OACI metro station
  • Berlin Wall segment with rough textures and graffiti
  • People, shops, and street life
  • Everything in between: reflective surfaces, interesting corners, layered perspectives and small details that most people walk right past.

This is an opportunity to meet other photographers and exchange ideas. All skill levels are invited, whether you're bringing a camera or a smartphone.

We look forward to welcoming everyone, including our many French-speaking members. I personally will communicate mostly in English, as my French is still a work in progress.

Around 3:30 PM, anyone who wants to continue the conversation is welcome to join us for an entirely optional café stop.

We look forward to seeing you!

SHARING PHOTOS AFTERWARDS
Once this Meetup event ends, we will create an album on the Photos page. Please post up to five (5) of your photographs from the event before 10 PM (EST) on Sunday, December 13, 2026.

Eligible photos:

  • Must be taken on Sunday, November 29 in the vicinity of the photo shoot
  • Must be posted before the deadline
  • Must have a title
  • Must NOT be sexually explicit or suggestive

We will all have access to this album and may post comments or questions on the individual photos. Please be sure to keep your comments kind and courteous. We want a supportive and encouraging group.

Organizers will also review the album and select a particularly beautiful or interesting photo to become the permanent album cover of the event. The name of the selected image’s photographer will appear in the album title.

Hope to see you soon on this or another photo shoot!
