ALL SAINTS DAY — Neighbors Helping Neighbors
This All Saints Day, The Neighbors is bringing people together in Astoria around a simple principle: love your neighbor as yourself.
Established in 2014, The Neighbors is a grassroots community initiative built around neighbors helping neighbors. Our purpose is simple: when someone in our community needs a hand, people who are able to help should have a place to step forward.
On All Saints Day, November 1, we’re calling on the good people of Astoria to come together at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, near Astoria Boulevard and 23rd Street, beginning at 11:00 AM.
THE CALL IS OPEN
Angels in Astoria. Warriors. Knights of Columbus. Sons and daughters of the One True God. Families. Friends. Local residents. And ordinary neighbors who simply believe in doing something good for another human being.
You don’t need a title.
You don’t need recognition.
You don’t need to be wealthy or powerful.
Sometimes being a good neighbor means helping an elderly person clean an apartment. Sometimes it’s bringing groceries to someone who can’t get out. It might mean giving someone a ride, helping with a small repair, checking on somebody who’s alone, or simply answering when another person says, “I need help.”
And if you’re the person who needs help, this community is for you too.
The idea behind this gathering isn’t about anyone declaring people to be saints. It’s about recognizing something much simpler: the way people treat one another matters. There are people quietly walking through our neighborhoods every day who demonstrate extraordinary kindness, service, sacrifice, compassion, courage, and love without expecting anything in return.
Those are the people we want to find.
Those are the people we want beside us.
And those are the values we want to encourage throughout our neighborhood.
THE NEIGHBORS
Neighbors Helping Neighbors — Est. 2014
Our work is rooted in faith, service, community, compassion, and love. We believe that when someone needs help, they should be able to ask—and when someone has the ability to help, they should have an opportunity to answer.
