The Miami Rivers Chapter of the Buckeye Trail Association is the chapter for those who live near or along the Caesar Creek and Troy sections of the Buckeye Trail (greater Dayton area). We support the Buckeye Trail through hiking, backpacking, and volunteer events. Please RSVP for an upcoming gathering!

Beall Farmstead on Tappan LakeThe BTA's Fall Mushroom Camp will be held at the BTA Beall Farmstead on the shore of Tappan Lake. Join us for a weekend of hiking, music, food, camping, and of course, Mushrooms! Our Hike leaders may take small groups to areas away from the Beall Farmstead to other Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Lakes, and carpooling is recommended. Our goal is to introduce the Buckeye Trail to our guests as well as hunt mushrooms while we are hiking the trail.
THINGS TO BRING: Bug Spray, Kayak w/ Night Light, Drinking Water
KAYAKING WILL BE DONE ON FRIDAY & SATURDAY NIGHT
FOOD: Bring your own food for Friday evening and lunch on Saturday. Deersville General Store will have food available throughout the weekend, and delivery may be available for larger orders. A Saturday Potluck will be at 6:15 pm; please bring something to share. Refrigerators and electric for crock pots are available.
MUSIC: "Eds Acoustic Thing" begins at 7:30 pm on Saturday, September 23.
PETS: Pets are permitted but must be leashed at all times.

The 7th Annual Little Loop Challenge will be held on National Public Lands Day.

DESCRIPTION: How do you get 70-100 hikers on the trail and still social distance? Spread them out over 250 miles. Once again, we will attempt to hike the entire 250+ mile "Little Loop" of the Buckeye Trail in one day! That's right! We will do it collectively. We've divided the Little Loop into 77 segments ranging from 1/2 mile to 6.5 miles.
The "Little Loop" connects the best areas of Northeast Ohio. It comprises the Akron, Bedford, Burton, Mogadore, and part of the Massillon Sections of the Buckeye Trail.

We celebrate with a catered BBQ later in the evening at the Oak Tree Picnic Shelter, Silver Springs Park, in Stow Ohio, located in the center of the circle. The event will be free again this year, but there will be a charge if you want a BBQ dinner (You are welcome to bring your own food as well).Here is what you need to know:
The Little Loop is made up of the Akron, Bedford, Burton, Mogadore, and part of the Massillon Section. Each section has its own map. You'll need to purchase a map for actual trail directions. If you don't have a map and want to participate, email LittleLoop@buckeyetrail.org

The Blue Blaze Festival will include food, drinks, a book signing, street vendors, and live music in downtown historic Shawnee. Friday evening is the Farmer's Market, with family-friendly activities and live music hosted by Destination Shawnee. Saturday offers a variety of trail runs and a 10 mile hike on the Buckeye Trail in the Wayne National Forest. The trail runs include a Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K, on primarily single-track trails. Appalachian Understories will also host a beginner backpacking workshop, leaving on Friday and returning to Shawnee on Saturday.

The Blue Blaze Festival celebrates the trail; whether you are a Trail Runner, Hiker or would like to learn more about backpacking, you are welcome to help Celebrate the Trail. Join us for the 2023 Buckeye Trail (BT) Blue Blaze Festival and explore the diversity and beauty of the trail. This year we are joining forces with Destination Shawnee, the Ohio Environmental Council, and Rural Action to bring together runners, hikers, and outdoor recreation businesses to the Village of Shawnee. This section of the Buckeye Trail, in the Wayne National Forest, is mostly single-track and provides some challenging terrain. The Blue Blaze Festival will highlight the BT as an outdoor destination for running, hiking, and backpacking, plus all of the excitement happening in the historic Village of Shawnee.
There will be five options for a distance and trail experience right for you: Half Marathon, 10K, 5K run/walk, 10 Mile Hike, and an overnight Backpacking trek. All events are on the Buckeye Trail in the Wayne National Forest. All race participants will receive an event t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female finishers in each of the three running events. The overall and age group results will be posted online. Age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over.Backpacking Course
If you are new to the experience of Backpacking and would like to improve your skills and comfort level, consider participating in this workshop. The group will be led by Appalachian Understories with orientation on Friday, starting at 11:00am, leaving for the trail by early afternoon, and returning to Shawnee on Saturday.
