We are a group that finds the outdoors enjoyable at a mellow pace. We will not be racing through. Average hikes or walks will be 3-6 miles.

Hikes: Have a decent pair of waterproof hiking footwear, a water bottle. Optional: hiking poles, backpack, microspikes (ice cleats), snacks.

Bicycling: Most events will be held off roads.

Kayaking: Local shoreline tributaries, rivers and when mellow the long island sound.
Most events followed with lunch at a local restaurant.
All who attend should be vaccinated and covid free

The water is sparkling this time of day, the big boats have come in, the sun is not as strong. 3:00pm is a perfect time for kayaking.
Description:
As we enter the estuary we will proceed under the bridge and follow the preserve, pass a beaver hut into a marina. As we paddle across the CT to paralell Anastasia entering a waterway that separates Anastasia and Seldon Creek. Docking on a clean sandy beach with rock outcropppings and a forest. Feel free to paddle more as you view Gillettes castle in the distancePotluck dinner: Deep River Town Landing with gazebo a deck and picnic area (about 1 mile from kayak putin) enjoy watching the reflections on the water and the birds returning to nest.
Bring your gear, a chair and something to share.
Must have PFD in kayak and preferably be wearing one. Should be able to paddle with ease, sometimes wind conditions change and you should have some experience with controlling your kayak.
* I am not a professionally licensed kayaker and thus don't have experience to save anyone, and cannot be responsible for you; so please be certain you can handle this paddle. Biking option, many low key roads with wide shoulders. We have ebikes that we will bring, (I'll have biking routes put together ahead of time to share)
Below is a schedule for kayaking with the group.
Feel free to arrive for the day and attend a kayaking events, or grab a site at Burlingame and join the camping festivities. Our site is 223 (The EM section). Burlingame is remodeling and has 50% of their sites available, so if interested you should book way ahead of time.

Wednesday morning, July 30 11AM departure: Organizing ourselves for our first paddle to Quonochontaug (Quonny) Breachway. Address: WEST BEACH ROAD, CHARLESTOWN RI Drive to the end of the “breach” drop off kayak and drive back down road to park. This is a lovely “pond” which offers serene water with warm swimming holes. There’s plenty of parking and it’s close to Burlingame. After kayaking the salt pond- We then park the kayaks on a strip of sand, drag them up a bit and walk over a dune to the ocean side. We setup for the day; believe me you won't want to leave. For those w/o kayaks, there is a lovely salt pond beach to setup for the day.Thursday, July 31: Kayak the Narrow river Departing campsite at 9:30am.

This paddle takes us through a natural preserve, “The Narrows” past a bridge and towards a peninsula where the ocean meets the river. We will picnic on the peninsula. Bring an umbrella, and a picnic lunch, If you enjoy riding waves in your life jacket- then you will love this place!Friday August 1: Quonny breech (see above for address)
Saturday August 2: Wickford Bay- Parking: 170 Main Street, North Kingston. Instead of going into Gardiners Seafood lot, turn right into the boat parking lot. Unload and Walk down path (on left) to get to sandy beach to launch kayak.
Wickford is a cute colonial village on the coast of North Kingstown. There's a harbor, marshes, and islands to explore.Saturday evening eat dinner in Wickford. Return to campsite for
fireworks at the seafood festival beginning at 9PMSunday August 3: Nothing planned as a group yet (we may use this day as a back up day if we had bad weather on the previous listing of events).
