Aylesford Priory, Neolithic Long Barrows and The North Downs Way 13.5km / 8.5 mile circular walk
Our journey will start in the ancient village of Aylesford. There has been human settlements here since Neolithic time as evidenced by the Kits Coty long barrows which we will visit to the north of the village. Along our route we will stop at The Friars – Aylesford Priory.
This ancient religious house of the Order of Carmelites dates back to the 13th Century. One of the most recent additions at Aylesford Priory is a narrow walled garden extending from the 16th-century gatehouse. The garden is laid out along a walkway paved with stones bearing the word ‘peace‘ in over 300 languages which we will walk along.
We will explore the Priory including the Rosary walk and duck pond before heading onto the incredible view point at Blue Bell Hill along the North Downs Way.
Here we will stop for lunch before heading back into the village.
A truly beautiful walk taking in sections of The River Medway trail, North Downs Way and visiting Neolithic sites along the way.
