MOUNTAIN MONKEYS HIKING

Folks, Im putting this event up on the site for anybody who might be interested in participating in this event or who have already registered for this event. Currently, I am not officially registered, however I am in touch with one of the event organisers, so hope to have a ticket between now and the event date, as I intend to participate in this event.. If you are not registered and minus a ticket, let me know and I will see what I can do! No guarantees by the way, however in previous years, a substantial number of tickets become available in the week leading up to the event.
Hosted by Annascaul Walks, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience. Known for its unrivaled scenic beauty, the Tom Crean Endurance Walk showcases the majestic landscapes of Mount Brandon, Brandon Ridge, An Geran, Ballysitteragh, Cnapan Mór, Windy Gap, Cnoc Mhaoilain, and the Annascaul River walk. With a total distance of 30 km and an ascent of 1900 meters, this self-navigated walk requires a high level of fitness and mountain experience. There is also a great apres hike night in the village with food (Outdoor barbecue) and entertainment provided in the local pubs on the Saturday night. Most accommodation in the general Annascaul area is now booked out, however keep an eye on the likes of booking.com or other reservation sites as accommodation will become available, either hostel, B&B or hotel type. I've also provided the link below, which will give you all the information you will need to complete this walk.
Every participant who completes the walk, will be presented with a commemoration medal from Tom Crean's great grandson at the finish, at the back of The South Pole Inn. It is a great weekend in the annual hiking challenge calendar 🥾🥾⛰️

Possibly the most challenging Day Hike (Most hikers do it over 2 days) you can do in the Mourne Mountains, this is a 33km 2600m ascent trek, circumnavigating the Mourne Mountain range. Ideally for hikers who can self-navigate and/or are experienced mountaineers, or fit hikers who want to broaden their hiking levels, if you feel you are up to this challenge, come along and give it a crack!!
Please arrive at Carrick Little Car Park by 08.00hrs and ready for walking at 08.15hrs. Be aware, this car park can be exceptionally busy during summer time, even on weekdays, as its a small car park, so the earlier the better for a long hike. Organiser's decision will be final on attendees. If you are not sure, it's probably not for you!

Route: Carrick Little Car Park - Slieve Binnian (747m) - Wee Binian (460m) - Moolieve (332m) - Slievenaglogh (445m) Slieve Muck (674m) - Carn Mountain (588m) - Slieve Loughshannagh (619m) Slieve Meelbeg (708m) - Sleve Meelmore (687m) - Slieve Bearnagh (739m - involves a small bit of scrambling to reach the top) - Hares Gap - Diamond Rocks - Slieve Corragh - Slieve Commedagh (765m to the Cairn) - Slieve Donard (849m) Bog of Donard - Dunnywater - Head Road - Carrick Little car park.

Another weekday leg stretcher folks to set you up nicely for the weekend or for any official Challenge events you may be planning in August, this event covers a distance of 53kms with a total ascent of 2290 metres, as per the Irish Ramblers official site who organise this annual event. This is an opportunity for fit and experienced hikers to participate as a Mountain Monkey Friday Special Event!! As this event will not take place until the end of July there is an opportunity here for hikers who feel their fitness is not at the level to up their game and be hike ready for this event.

This is a linear walk, so we will meet at the finish point, Fentons Pub, just beyond the village of Donard, between 6.10/6.15am and will provide transport to take us the short distance to Stone Park Forest Entrance to start the walk. The Bus/Taxi will leave Fentons Pub at 6.30am sharp in order to start the walk at 7am. There will be a 12 hour window give or take, to complete the walk back to Fentons. There are approximately 12 peaks (4 Dublin, 8 Wicklow) to negotiate, starting at Seahan and finishing at Lugnaquilla. This should be another challenging but exciting day's hiking. This is the official Challenge day event organised by the Lagan Valley Orienteers. Distance, 30kms with an ascent of 2500m, climbing 7 peaks all over 700m. I have already registered for this event and have provided the link attached re requirements for entering and how to register. Depending on interest, happy to put a team together for the event.
