About us
👋 HELLO AND WELCOME TO MOVIE ROADHOUSE LONDON!
London’s biggest film club — built by movie fans, for movie fans. We’re a buzzing community of movie lovers, indie filmmakers, comic geeks, and creators who live and breathe cinema. From cult classics to hidden gems, big-screen blockbusters to indie passion projects — we just love getting lost in movies.
We meet regularly for screenings, grab drinks after, and rave (or rant) together on our Letterboxd Page. You’ll often find us at our BFI Riverfront Socials — always a vibe. We stay on top of film news, and our members help vote on what we watch next via WhatsApp or Telegram (unlocked after your first meetup).
We also aim to make an effort to support independent cinema — from The Film Festival Guild to the Prince Charles Cinema, the BFI, Medicinema, and more. That means we sometimes get special perks, early screenings, and the chance to hit the road for exciting festivals. From film quizzes to chill pub nights, there’s always something going on.
Come hang with a bunch of awesome film fans, and pull up a seat at the Roadhouse — we’d love to have you with us. 🎬

🇫🇷🎬 NOUVELLE VAGUE
BFI Southbank, BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XT, GB🎭 A fresh wave with a unique lens, offering a heartfelt love letter to French cinema.
👋 Hello, everyone! We’ll be meeting for a relaxed evening at the BFI Southbank—starting with drinks and then watching Richard Linklater’s latest comedy-drama, Nouvelle Vague. It had a stellar run at last year’s BFI London Film Festival, earning high praise from both critics and audiences—so if you missed it, this is your perfect chance to catch this limited run!
The film is a playful, meta reimagining of Jean-Luc Godard’s iconic debut, offering a nostalgic nod to the rebellious French New Wave. And of course, Linklater brings his signature themes—suburban life and the passage of time—into the mix, making this a fascinating watch.
Since it’s a weekday late-night showing, we’ll meet for drinks first, head into Screen NFT1, and then wrap up with a quick Letterboxd Review after.
Let’s embrace this New Wave in style—I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!

🇫🇷🎬 THE 400 BLOWS (FILM & DISCUSSION)
Picturehouse Central, 15 Great Windmill Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, London, GB🖤 An angelic exterior masks a hell-bent appetite for violence — a stark contrast between the protagonist’s innocent appearance and their rebellious actions.
👋 Hello guys — we’re going way back in time to a French coming-of-age classic and the directorial debut of François Truffaut. The film received widespread acclaim on release, earned numerous nominations, and is now regarded as one of the greatest films ever made — as well as Truffaut’s most successful film in his home country.
The premise follows thirteen-year-old Antoine (Jean-Pierre Léaud) can’t seem to do anything right. Scolded at home and targeted at school, luck never falls his way. When it all becomes too much, he abandons everything and takes his chances on the streets of Paris. By turns joyful and bitterly hard, this fragile freedom leads to a painful, poignant conclusion.
We’ll be meeting at the Picturehouse Central Bar (upstairs) — please collect your ticket before heading in. We’ll then head up to Screen 5 (I’ll be in seat E5, but feel free to sit wherever you like). After the film, we’ll reconvene at the bar for drinks, a discussion of this classy French classic, and a Letterboxd score.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
See you then,

🎶🎬 FROM LUMIÈRE TO LLOYD: SILENT CINEMA W/ LIVE ORGAN
Regent Street Cinema, 307 Regent Street, London, W1B 2HW, GB🎥 Join us for a special anniversary celebration of silent cinema, marking 130 years since film history began at the very own Regent Street Cinema 🎞
In 1896, the Lumière brothers brought their cinematograph to Regent Street, presenting the first moving pictures ever screened to a paying audience in the UK. This unique event looks back to that extraordinary moment with an evening of silent film curated and presented live by Paul Merton, who will be in attendance to introduce and reflect on the films as they unfold.
The programme begins with a selection of pioneering early short films and classic silent comedies, capturing cinema in its infancy — playful, inventive, and full of wonder. These pre-interval films will be accompanied live on the cinema’s historic organ, recreating the atmosphere of early film exhibition.
Pre-interval programme:
Sprinkler Sprinkled (1895, France) – Directed by Louis Lumière
One of the earliest narrative films, this short comic scene features a mischievous boy playing a prank on a gardener, creating a simple yet enduring visual gag that helped establish screen comedy.Demolishing a Wall (1896, France) – Directed by Louis Lumière
A group of workers knock down a wall, only for it to magically reassemble in reverse motion. A playful experiment that reveals cinema’s early fascination with time, movement, and illusion.Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat (1896, France) – Directed by Auguste and Louis Lumière
Perhaps the most famous of all early films, this strikingly realistic depiction of a train entering a station demonstrates the immersive power of moving images in cinema’s earliest days.Cameo the Dog (1907, United Kingdom) – Director unknown
This charming British short follows a clever dog who helps his owner recover stolen goods, showcasing early narrative storytelling and animal performance. Two Tars (1928, USA) – Directed by James Parrott
Laurel and Hardy star as sailors whose shore leave spirals into escalating chaos. Renowned for its spectacular street brawl, the film is a masterclass in slapstick comedy. After a short interval:
Speedy (1928, USA), directed by Ted Wilde — Harold Lloyd’s exuberant silent feature celebrating New York City in all its bustling energy. Lloyd stars as an optimistic young man fighting to save his girlfriend’s grandfather’s horse-drawn streetcar business, resulting in a joyous blend of romance, daring stunts, and large-scale urban comedy. The film will be shown with a score by the legendary composer Carl Davis.
I’ll be hanging out at the Regent Street Cinema Café & Bar from 6:30p.m. for a meet & greet before we head to Screen One. Pick any seat you like—we’ll regroup for a film review and drink after the film.
See you guys there

💎 CRIME 101
LEICESTER SQUARE,, London WC2H 7DE, London, GB🐭 Always have an exit as one heist connects them all. This definitely makes for some tension right?
👋 Alright you guys, picture this — Crime 101 is all about a master thief pulling off high-end heists along the Pacific coast. But here’s the kicker: the scoop is there is this detective who’s convinced all these jewel robberies are connected. So, it looks like a cat-and-mouse game—sharp, tense, and with that coastal noir vibe.
This is actually based on a short story by Don Winslow, and the film is directed by Bart Layton who’s known for blending real-life crime with a gripping narrative style—so we can expect some clever twists along the way!
We’ll have a meet-and-greet before the movie, with maybe some late night drinks after with Letterboxd film review. I say if you’re into stylish crime thrillers, we should check this out!
See you guys at the meetup
