👋 Hi everyone! We are changing gears to something a little bit different this time, as we take a look at the latest stop-motion dark fantasy film produced by LAIKA Studios..

The film is directed by Travis Knight, written by Chris Butler, and based on the 2011 fantasy novel by Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists.. The painstaking stop-motion production is fascinating as it took over four years, using 231 puppets and 136 handcrafted sets.

The film follows teenager Prue and her classmate Curtis as they launch a rescue mission into a forbidden forest after a murder of crows abducts her infant brother. There, they discover a secret, magical world caught in a brewing war, forcing them to find extraordinary courage to survive.

The Meetup: As always, we’ll meet for drinks before the film and get acquainted. Once the credits roll, we’ll hang around to discuss the movie, share our reviews, and give it our Letterboxd score. Full timings and meetup details will be added nearer the date, so check back here for updates.
