What we’re about

Do you like to walk but would like some company for motivation and conversation? The goal of the Walking Meetup for 50 plus is to both exercise and socialize. After a one hour walk, you will have the option to join walkers for brunch where you can get to know each other better. Although the scheduled meetup is only for Sunday, you may make friends to schedule walks during the week.

Startup time: 11 a.m., prompt start
Enter the park at 90th St and Fifth Avenue and walk across the road where there are bicyclists and joggers. This is East Drive. Meet at the benches to the left near a small drinking fountain. We will walk on the Bridle Path, a wide firm dirt path that goes around the reservoir. Members can plan other one hour routes from this start point.. We are not walking on the narrow, elevated jogging path around the reservoir. It will take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace. We will likely divide up according to your preferred pace-slow, medium, or brisk. Those who want to have brunch will meet at the start point and walk to a nearby restaurant such as Bread and Wine on Lexington Avenue.

If hard rain or intense heat interfere with our walk, I will post a cancellation by 11 a.m.

Walkers will be asked for a $1 donation for the cost of maintaining the walking meetup website.

From The New York Times:

Whatever the Problem, It’s Probably Solved by Walking

A walk begins to carve out space between my thoughts that allows clarity to rise up through my shoes.
