Yosemite foothills, Hornitos Ca.,Yosemite Bug Hostel

Last weekend I rode a two day Western Wheelers bike club event out of Placerville. Beautiful weather, still green,etc.

On my way home I detoured through Hornitos,Ca I have done a couple of rides through there in the past. Some of the best back roads in the central Sierra.

We'll ride some of these same roads as part of a 2 day tour starting in Hornitos.

At this point we will be staying the first night at the the Yosemite Bug Hostel in Midpines Ca. Most likely this will be hostel (female or coed) bunk accomodations. You can check the website for an idea of what they offer.
I will reserve space depending on how many people sign up.
If more than four people go, I recommend bringing your own sleeping bag.
No camping like last time.

The neat thing is that they have a restaurant there that is known for exceptional food.

Slow Roast Herbed Turkey, Wild Boar Osso Bucco, Roasted Prime Rib with Horseradish Cream, Saffron Rissotto with Porcini, Stuffed Acorn Squash with Quinoa, etc.

About a 30 mile first day ride starting from Hornitos.

Other,more "High end"Thursday night accommodations are in nearby Mariposa. You'll have to make your own reservations for them though.

The whole route is on very quiet back roads. You can do the whole ride on pavement, but I plan on exploring some dirt roads.

Day one climbing is about 2900' Start at 800' , finish at 2800'.

Friday return to Hornitos is different back roads through Bootjack,Mormon Bar and Catheys Valley. About 40 miles. Shortcuts available.
