What we're about

As the Bay Area continues to live under shelter-in-place orders, we're going to continue this online meetup to socialize and share bike travel stories. The first two have gone very well and we've heard some great stories (and songs). Thanks to everyone who's participated so far. Let's join together again to share stories and adventures about traveling by bicycle. For the meetup, I'm looking for 4-5 presentations to be shared. If you would like to share or contribute, please prepare a short 8-10 minute presentation about some aspect of traveling by bike. I'd like to reserve 5 minutes at the end of each presentation for questions and discussion. If you would like to present, please leave a comment below or contact me via meetup. I will curate the list of presenters and update this event as people volunteer. I will announce when all slots are taken. This event will be held via Zoom so slides/photos can be shared. A Zoom link will be provided a day before the event. A meeting password will be messaged separately to registered attendees at that time. Please ask questions or leave comments/suggestions below! See you on Zoom. This hasn't been an issue but a few groundrules: be polite; no blatant commercial advertisements; stay on topic, this is a bicycle touring group; be nice.
This is the standard social event - to be updated closer to the time. Typically a party at someone's place, anyone welcome - bring food, drinks and happy faces! Sometimes we'll meet in a bar instead. Keep your eyes peeled for the event updates!
**Safe Physical Distancing Will be Practiced. Assume driving up separately or carpooling as each wishes. We'll use safe distancing at camp. When you RSVP you are committing to practicing this protocol along with the entire group. Thanks! Enjoy spring in the Tahoe National Forest. Camping bike tour - 2 nights, 3 days. 80 miles total. Did this trip Oct 2019 and it's so wonderful! Moderate pace, regrouping so we are together, and individual commissary. 90% unpaved county and USFS roads in Tahoe National Forest. Packed gravel, dirt roads. Moderate difficulty. Expect around 25-35 miles per day. Each night relax at waterside campsites. From Truckee we'll head north to Little Truckee Summit and west on Henness Pass Road to Webber Lake (camp), then south on Meadow Lake Rd to Meadow Lake, then northward to Jackson Meadow Reservoir (camp). Return eastward on Henness Pass Rd, cross Hwy 89, then continue and descend to Verdi, our end point. After a celebratory beer, car shuttle back to Truckee to pick up vehicles. 4 Day tour from Reno to Sacramento via Lake Tahoe / Grover Hot Springs. I am offering two routes in hopes of attracting riders of varying ability. Considering the elevation gain is not too terrible, anyone in decent to good biking shape with at least one prior multiday bicycle tour should be able to do this. This should not be your first bicycle tour. Attractions are: remote roads, frequent bodies of water, great scenery, great comradeship, and getting out of town for July 4th. Limit 8 participants, and I hope we get a waiting list. For those who are unsure about being able to cycle the entire distance, please consider doing the "B" route. Those folks should camp at DL Bliss Hiker / Biker site along Lake Tahoe on Day 2 and proceed to Silver Lake West on Day 3, where we will all meet up in the afternoon / evening.
