Norcal Bicycle Touring

A week long bike trip from Pittsburgh to DC riding GAP trail and C&O canal trail between 9/27 - 10/5. It is a self contained trip and camping along the way. This is 333 miles in total with 7500ft elevation gain. I am planning g to ride this in 6 days.

I will be flying from SFO to Pittsburgh and catching the return flight from DC.

Day 0 - 9/27 - Fly to Pittsburg with the bike

Day 1 - 9/28- Starting at 148.8 of Gap trail and camp at (mile 89.4) Connesvile hiker-biker .
Total miles -59.4
Elevation gain - 1521 ft

Day 2 - 9/29 - Camp at (mile 31.9 ) Maple Festival Park Camping - Need to reserve.
Total miles -57.5
Elevation gain - 2100 ft

Day 3 - 9/30 - Camp at (mile 140.9 ) Paw Paw Tunnel Campground- - Need to reserve.
Total miles -60.3
Elevation gain - 1500 ft

Day 4 - 10/1 - Camp at (mile 101.2) Jordan Junction hiker biker
Total miles -54.9
Elevation gain - 965 ft

Day 5 - 10/2 - Camp at (mile 50.3) Bald Eagle island - hiker biker
Total miles -50.9
Elevation gain - 930 ft

Day 6 - 10/3 - Camp at DC
Total miles -50.3
Elevation gain - 750 ft

Join me for a challenging tour south from San Jose to SLO, going along backroads with lots of elevation.

It will be 4 nights of camping with lots of epic riding during the day.

Did some research on the roads between Carmel and Kirk Creek CG (Hwy 1) and they appear to be open and rideable, though there are a few spots of "hike your bike" on Indians Rd.

I am still researching the water situation at Arroyo Seco CG.

"Plan C" is to try to cycle thru on Hwy 1 and hope there is no one checking at the Ragged Point washout (we may need to ride it late in the day.) We could always camp in Big Sur if this is not possible, and turn around. We can decide once we're in Monterey.
