Kayaking from LIC to Governors Island and back

Hey everyone,

The LIC community boathouse is going to head over to Governors Island to support a swimming event around Governors Island. The plan is to meet in LIC at 6:15am (sharp). Kayak to Brooklyn. Hang out in Brooklyn until the start of the event. We will kayak along the swimmers in case they need help.

The reason we are leaving earlier is due to the tides in the East River. Fun fact is that the East River is a tidal estuary not an actual river. In tidal estuary you need to kayak in direction of the tides. Early morning the tides will be going South. Afternoon north.

As of this writing they need 3 more volunteers for the swim. Kayaks are provided by LIC community boathouse. You do need to have some experience kayaking. No beginners.

The boathouse is right next to Rockaway Brewing in LIC. You must RSVP by Thursday August 14 at 5pm.
