Garden Work Party! April 17th in NJ

From: Nicole
Sent on: Thursday, April 1, 2010, 11:51 AM
Come to a fun, educational work party at my house!
On Saturday, April 17th
at 12:00pm
We will be "breaking ground" (though not much breaking going on with the permaculture method of building garden beds) on my new garden, which will eventually become a market garden.

Please come and learn about or add your expertise to a sheet mulching project. Also called lasagna gardening, sheet mulching, is a simple and ingenious system for creating garden beds, building soil, and is a key element in designing a low-maintenance, permaculture garden system. We'll be spreading horse manure, laying out cardboard, working with straw, and shoveling out compost. Lots of shoveling and spreading and watering!

There will be some BBQ food served. If you wish, bring a dish - but no problem if you don't. We'll start at noon and be working and hanging out for about 2 to 3 hours (people are welcome to stay longer and enjoy the "country" for a while - it is a beautiful place!). Come for as long as you can - any help is greatly appreciated!!!  Please RSVP so I have an idea of how many people will be there.

ADDRESS: Nicole's house
                    9 Piermont Rd
                    Rockleigh, NJ 07647

FROM NYC: There are public transportation options: Rockland Coaches and NJ Transit buses from Port Authority and the GW Bridge Bus Station stop in nearby Palisades, NY on Oaktree Rd (a 35-50 minute ride). I can pick you up from the bus stop, a couple of miles away from my house.
Rockleigh is about 15 miles from the GW Bridge in Manhattan - a bike-able distance....
